Common use of UNPAID PERSONAL LEAVES OF ABSENCE Clause in Contracts

UNPAID PERSONAL LEAVES OF ABSENCE. 1. Any employee may apply for an unpaid personal leave of absence. Leave pursuant to this provision may be for a period not exceeding twelve (12) months. Such leave may be granted at the sole discretion of the Board when the Board determines the leave is profitable to the school, essential to the well-being of the employee, and the Board is able to secure a replacement for the employee for the leave period. Employees must consult with Human Resources to determine if they are eligible for benefits available under the state or federal family medical leave statutes if the request for leave is related to personal or family illness. Any personal leave of absence that also qualifies for federal or state family and medical leave must be taken concurrent with FMLA leave and will be paid to the extent that the employee has accrued paid leave. The balance of the personal leave of absence will be unpaid. Except during any period covered by the use of applicable paid leave and/or federal FMLA, retention of insurance benefits shall be at the employee’s expense.
