Vacancies in Competitive Classifications. Where a vacancy occurs in the competitive service which is normally filled by appointment from a Competitive Civil Service list, the position, if retained, shall be filled by transfer in the same classification or by appointment from an appropriate Civil Service Eligibility List, except: - That candidates on an established promotional list shall be given preference before any other considerations are made. - That the selection process shall be in accordance with the Civil Service Law. - That the Board of Education agrees that every effort shall be made to fill competitive job vacancies from among employees within the bargaining unit who meet the qualifications for the position. The City School District shall be the sole judge of a candidate’s qualifications at the time the promotional vacancy occurs. Any employee selected in accordance with the procedures set forth above shall undergo a probationary period of not less than eight (8) weeks nor more than six (6) months.
