Work Load for Faculty. (a) Full-time Type B faculty teaching semester-based courses that are of duration to contact hours per week will have a seven-course per year load. Faculty in Math, CIS, Physics and teach a load per year; for faculty in the workload will be courses per year. For faculty who are not laboratory instructors and whose load includes teaching a lab or a course with a full lab component, the lab or component shall count as of a course. The load for laboratory instructors is lab sections per year. The normal teaching duties for a full-time instructor who teaches in a program organized on a basis or which is funded as a vocational program shall not normally exceed five (25) hours of classroom instruction per week. The assigned duty time for full-time based faculty employees shall not normally exceed (35) hours per week. As far as is possible, all instructional faculty shall be eligible to teach the full range of offerings within their assigned instructional areas. No faculty in the departments which offer third and courses will be exempt from teaching courses at the first and second year levels. The University College of the Valley has a commitment to establishing a fund to support scholarly activity, accessible to all faculty, as outlined in Article (Professional Development Funds). Within any two-year period, faculty may apply to have up to of one annual workload reassigned to scholarship directly related to the faculty member's area of expertise, scholarship being broadly defined. Such reassignment of workload shall be made by recommendation of the Department to the Instructional Xxxx for the area, and with the approval of the Xxxx, and further approval by an appropriate committee on scholarship. Any scholarship undertaken as a result of the reassignment of workload shall be subject to evaluation as part of the faculty member's regular workload. Instructors who are to be evaluated on additional scholarship must be granted a reassignment of teaching or other duties in order to allow them the opportunity to perform these assignments satisfactorily. greater than are encouraged to participate on committees.
