Intensive Outpatient Program definition

Intensive Outpatient Program means an intermediate level of mental health care where individuals are seen in a group setting 2 to 5 times a week for 2 to 3 hours at a time (depending on the structure of the individual program). The clinical work is primarily done in a group setting, with individual sessions scheduled as needed outside of group hours. Medical necessity drives the number of days a patient is able to stay at this level of care.
Intensive Outpatient Program or “IOP” means an integrated set of bundled all-inclusive outpatient psychiatric services provided in the psychiatric unit of a hospital or in a psychiatric hospital that are paid at a daily rate and are designed for more intensive treatment than routine outpatient psychiatric services;
Intensive Outpatient Program or “IOP” means structured substance use disorder and mental health treatment programming consisting primarily of counseling and education. IOP is more intensive than outpatient counseling, less intensive than residential care and can function as a step-down from residential care.
