Common use of Bereavement/Funeral Leave Clause in Contracts

Bereavement/Funeral Leave. 28.01 In the event of the death of a member of a full-time employee’s immediate family, the employee will be granted a leave of absence, with pay, to make arrangements for and attend the funeral or memorial service as follows; Immediate family member Consecutive scheduled work days Spouse five (5) Sister/Brother five (5) Parent five (5) Child five (5) Grandchild three (3) Grandparent three (3) Parent of spouse three (3) Son-in-law/Daughter-in-law three (3) Step-parent three (3) Any person who legally acted three (3) in one of the above capacities 28.02 The above days will be scheduled surrounding the funeral or memorial service and the employee will be paid at his or her regular hourly rate for each of the days. 28.03 The term “spouse” will include a common law partner of the same or opposite sex. 28.04 Upon request, an employee will be required to provide satisfactory proof for the bereavement leave request, including the deceased relatives name, name and address of the funeral home and the date of the funeral.
