Caseload/Class Load Table. For the 2021-22 school year, due to staffing complexities, the District will phase in the added para educator hours for elementary and secondary resource by the end of the first quarter of the school year. Updates will be brought to the Collaboration Team monthly. Special education class load or caseload assistance will be provided in accordance with the following table. When there is a fractionated blending of special education programs, case load triggers will be applied proportionally based on students enrolled per program. Special education caseload counts for the purpose of determining potential caseload remedies shall be the Tuesday of the second week of October, December, February, and April. For the 2024-25 school year due to staffing complexities, the District will phase in the Special Education staffing grid by the end of the first quarter of the school year, unless otherwise noted within the Special Education staffing grid. Preschool 10 students per session 1-hour paraeducator per additional student After attempting to balance class size, should class size reach 13, support will trigger .125 FTE per half-day session that reaches the trigger, which at the district’s discretion may be posted or be paid as additional compensation. When class size reaches 14, class size support will trigger an additional .0625 FTE per half-day session in compensation and the district will post a .5 FTE position. FTE compensation is in lieu of paraeducator support and should the posted position be filled; the class size shall be balanced, and compensation will cease. 7.0 hours of para-ed time Monday- Thursday and 5 hours on Friday. An additional para-ed will be shared between two preschool classrooms, Monday-Friday. In the event that there are an odd number of preschool classrooms, then 3.75 hours of para-ed time will be assigned to the odd classroom. Should a class have students with severe disabilities, including Extended Day Preschool, behavior concerns impacting safety, or health impairments, additional para time may be requested to the Executive Director for Special Services (or designee).   • Class Size a) When CONTRACTOR is a NPS, CONTRACTOR shall ensure that class size shall not exceed a ratio of one teacher per fourteen (14) pupils. Each classroom with 2 or more students shall be assigned at least one paraprofessional. Upon written approval by an authorized XXX representative, class size may be temporarily increased by a ratio of 1 teacher to sixteen (16) pupils when necessary to provide services to pupils with disabilities. For any billing period where the class size has exceeded sixteen (16) students for five consecutive school days, the CONTRACTOR shall have a 10% decrease in its approved daily rate for those LEA students that exceeded sixteen (16), for those days (over five). b) In the event an NPS is unable to fill a vacant teaching position responsible for direct instruction to students, and the vacancy has direct impact on the CDE Certification of that school, the NPS shall develop a plan to ensure appropriate coverage of student by first utilizing existing certificated staff. The NPS and the LEA may agree to one 30 school day period per contract year where class size may be increased to ensure coverage by an appropriately credentialed teacher. Such an agreement shall be in writing and signed by both parties. This provision does not apply to a NPA. c) CONTRACTOR providing special education instruction for individuals with exceptional needs between the ages of three and five years, inclusive, shall also comply with the appropriate instructional adult to child ratios pursuant to California Education Code sections 56440 et seq.
