Class Load. 1. The teaching load of a teacher of the secondary school (six through twelve) will be limited to not more than five (5) preparations of different subject areas and/or levels. R: 03
2. It is recognized by the Board that the pupil-teacher ratio is an important aspect of an effective educational program. The Board agrees to continue its efforts to keep class sizes acceptable as dictated by the financial condition of the district, the building facilities available, the availability of qualified teachers and the best interest of the district as deemed administratively feasible. The general class size will be established by the subject taught. For most classroom teaching situations requiring one teacher, the student-teacher ratio may be 25-l. It is further recommended that no secondary class exceed 35 students and no elementary class exceed 30 students. The District-wide ratio for students to teacher is recommended to be 25 to l. In determining the ratio the following certified personnel shall be excluded: counselors, library media specialists, special education teachers, art teachers, elementary music personnel, elementary physical education personnel, speech therapists, and any administrative personnel. 3. Whenever a teacher’s class size is greater than the 30 or 35 stated above, or is not in compliance with state or federal regulations, or contains three (3) or more included students (Examples: Special Education, Title I, Alternative Ed., English Language Learners) at any one time, and/or a teacher recognizes that the needs of the students are not being adequately met because of class size, that teacher may, after the first ten (10) school days of the semester communicate with his/her principal the relief sought. If the principal does not agree to the teacher’s recommended relief within five (5) school days, the teacher may proceed to #6. R: 89, 06, 09
4. In reviewing a class size problem, the principal may consider the following:
a. Number of students in each class b. Number of classes being taught by the teacher
Class Load. .1 Principals will provide each teacher with a full-time, regular classroom assignment, with at least 215 minutes of planning time, during the instructional week. This amount will be increased to 225 minutes per week beginning with the 2019-2020 school year as long as the increase in minutes per week does not necessitate an increase in overall staff.

The Board agrees to continue its efforts to keep class sizes within the recommended levels below as dictated by the financial condition of the District, the building facilities available, and the availability of qualified teachers.
Class Load. In any grade level or class with two or more sections, student enrollment will be scheduled in such a way that the number of pupils in each class will be essentially the same, except as prohibited by scheduling.
Class Load. The parties recognize the District’s right to determine class size. To that end, the following has been established:
1. The parties agree that, at the Principal’s option, an ad hoc Class Size Committee will review problems identified by an employee relating to class size or workload.
2. If an employee is not satisfied with the results of the process in Section 1 above, a Review Committee composed of the Superintendent or his designee, the building Principal, the employee involved, and an Association representative shall be created. Others may be added by mutual agreement by the initial Review Committee. The Review Committee shall be convened within ten (10) working days from the superintendent’s receipt of such request.
3. Within twenty-five (25) days of the receipt of the employee’s request, the superintendent will issue a written decision taking into consideration the findings and recommendations of the committee.
4. Only the procedural aspects of this Article may be subject to the Grievance Procedure.
Class Load. Employees at the high school shall be assigned to five (5) instructional periods per day, plus one (1) duty period per day and one (1) planning period per day. Employees at the middle school shall be assigned to six (6) instructional periods per day plus one (1) duty period per day and one (1) planning period per day. If a teacher teaches an additional class period in lieu of a duty period or a planning period for a school year, said teacher shall be paid 1/7 of current BA base if at PSHS or 1/8 of current base if at PMS.
Class Load. The DISTRICT and the ASSOCIATION agree to work cooperatively toward equitable class loads consistent with sound educational practices and budgetary constraints.
Class Load. The Board and the Western Education Association/Xxxxxxx County Education Association agree that class enrollments, including advisory, will not exceed twenty-eight (28) pupils per classroom. Exceptions to this provision include:
1. The Board and the Western Education Association/Xxxxxxx County Education Association agree that class enrollments will not exceed twenty-six (26) pupils per class grades K-2. An allowance of one (1) additional student per class is permitted.
2. Young Fives. Young Fives will not exceed twenty (20) students per section. If numbers reach seventeen (17), a teacher paraprofessional will be hired. Students will be scheduled for Young Fives’ classes only after consultation with the teachers involved.
3. An allowance of two (2) additional students per classroom is permitted in grades 3-12. In the event that these additional students are added to a classroom excepting Music, Physical Education and other traditionally recognized larger classes, the teacher will be compensated $12.00 per full day per student over 28 in grades 3- 12 or over 26 students in grades K-2. The above amount will be prorated for secondary teachers, based on the proportion of the teacher’s instructional day during which the added student(s) are present in the teacher’s classroom. Secondary teachers will be compensated .64516 percent of their daily rate per student over 155. The above amount will be prorated for secondary teachers, based on the proportion of the teacher’s instructional day during which the added student(s) are present in the teacher’s class. The above amount will be paid to elementary teachers, on a prorated basis, for the proportion of the teacher’s instructional day where a student not on the teacher’s class load is assigned to the teacher’s classroom for instruction. However, students not on the teacher’s class load shall not count toward that teacher’s class load limit. Pro-ration at the elementary level will be on the basis of a six (6) hour instructional day. Pro-rated payments will be rounded to the nearest hour, but shall not be less than one (1) hour.
Class Load. The following guidelines shall be followed in an attempt to maintain an appropriate pupil- teacher ratio:
A. No more than twenty-eight (28) students shall be assigned to a kindergarten classroom, twenty-four (24) students assigned to a combination classroom, twenty-one (21) students assigned to a primary (junior first) grade classroom, nor more than thirty (30) students in any first through twelfth grade regular classroom.
B. In the event that the class size limitation specified in Section A of this Article are exceeded, teachers of self-contained classrooms (students are present with the same teacher all day) shall be reimbursed at the rate of $10.00 per day ($5.00 per half day) for each student over the maximum. Teachers of departmentalized courses shall receive $3.00 per class period per day for each student over the maximum. Special education teachers in inclusive classrooms are not eligible for overload pay.
C. If overload conditions exist class sizes may not exceed the following:
1. Up to twenty-six (26) students may be scheduled into first through sixth grade combination classrooms, twenty-two (22) in the primary classroom, and thirty-two (32) in first through twelfth grade regular classrooms.
A. With teacher and administration approval in grades 9-12 can go to (33)
2. Up to thirty-four (34) students in grades seven through twelve may be scheduled into a regular classroom during the time that a special education teacher is assigned to assist special education students in the regular education classroom.

3. In specialty classes such as physical education, band, vocal music, computers, art, shop, small engine repair, technology labs, and so forth, the class size limitations in Section A of this Article shall be waived. In such classes, the class size limitation shall be increased or decreased as determined by the facilities available and conditions conclusive to a safe and appropriate learning environment.
D. Overload rates as described in Section B would be paid for those days when the actual enrollment of the class as shown by the office roster exceeds the specified limit. Overload pay will not be provided for days upon which class is not held or canceled for any reason. Daily attendance shall not be used to calculate overload pay.

Class Load. To the extent permitted by the fiscal resources and physical facilities of the District, and consistent with sound educational principles, the number of students assigned to instruction by a member of the bargaining unit, on the secondary level, on any one day shall be within the following guidelines:
A. Academic subjects and all subjects other than music and physical education a maximum of 150 students.
B. Music and physical education a maximum of 220 students. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Board will continue its present written policy in regard to the daily class load for secondary English Teachers.
