Emergency Day. One (1) day or a portion thereof per Agreement year without loss of pay may be taken off subject to approval of the employee's supervisor and/or appointing authority when it is necessary that the employee be immediately off work to attend to one of the following situations either of which necessitates immediate action on the part of the employee: A. The employee's spouse or domestic partner, child, parents or grandparents has unexpectedly become seriously ill or has had a serious accident; or B. An unforeseen occurrence with respect to the employee's household (e.g., fire, flood or ongoing loss of power). "Household" shall be defined as the physical aspects, including pets, of the employee's residence or vehicle.
