Emergency Leaves. Leaves of absence without pay for emergency situations may be granted employees at the discretion of the head of the facility. Normally, an employee must have at least six (6) months service to be considered for a leave of absence. A leave of absence request shall not be unreasonably denied. The following are some of the situations normally considered to be just reasons for such leave: (a) death in the immediate family; (b) sickness or injury in the immediate family; (c) care of newborn children or the adoption of children. Such leaves of absence shall not be in excess of thirty (30) days (leaves of absence as described in (c) above shall not be in excess of ninety (90) days but may be requested by the employee or approved by the Employer for less than ninety (90) days), but may be extended beyond that time or granted in greater increments at the discretion of the head of the facility but in no case will any combination of leaves as set forth in this Section 4 exceed six (6) months.
