Final Thoughts. In the end, the goal is to ensure that the consignment occurs while protecting the interest of the University. The goal is to have an agreement that both parties can live with while being fair to both parties.
Final Thoughts. Cuba’s economic position is more critical now than it was in 2016, when the agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Cuba was signed. The US blockade and the lifting of the suspension of Title III of the Xxxxx-Xxxxxx Act have significantly reduced income from US tourism on the one hand and raise the possibilities of US citizens affected by seizures of property from which foreign investors have bene- fited bringing law suits. This has placed many European companies with investments in Cuba in a difficult position. Further investment will not arrive without guarantees that they will not face legal proceedings in the United States. The oil embargo on Venezuela (meant to xxxxxx political change in the country and at the same time worsen Cuba’s economic situation) may slow the transformation of the island’s economic system envisaged in the new 2019 constitution. The EU’s change of focus embodied in the PDCA prioritises transforming the Cuban economy. For the EU, the important thing is for the Cuban development model to work. The PDCA’s references to the Cuban economy only describe accompanying the process of updating the econ- omy and society in Cuba. The entire structure of economic cooperation could be jeopardised if the reforms of the economy’s trade capacity – of exchange rate duality and the many peculiarities of the trade regime that are incompatible with multilateral discipline – are too slow or fail to materialise. At the moment, despite the optimism generated by the growth of self-employment and cooperatives, the private sector does not appear able to trigger the transformation of the Cuban economy. It is more like an escape valve that gives a formal route to addressing declining person- al income and employment surpluses from restructuring state-owned enterprises. Top-down modernisation of the economy by those who control its principal sectors and external sector remains the only route.
Final Thoughts. As discussed above, local area services and works and services agreements are two options available to local governments for financing local infrastructure and services. Both are suited to the provision of services when only localised services are necessary, as opposed to across the entire jurisdiction, and each has their own particular circumstances that suit their implementation. Works and services agreements are best suited to financing infrastructure itself, such as roads, water, sewer, and drainage, and are limited to subdivision of land or development requiring building permits. Local area services are broader in the scope of services they can provide, but have additional restrictions on their implementation and require greater community consensus, as they have an ongoing nature. Prior to establishing either of these financing tools, it is important to understand their nature and enabling legislation, so that they can be effectively used in each circumstance. NOTES
Final Thoughts. Collaboration Agreements are a new emerging reality within Shining Waters Regional Council. The Communities of Faith are excited to be working together in this new undertaking. This agreement expresses our proposal for a commitment between the two Communities of Faith to collaborate in sharing staff and our ministries. It will take open communication and a willingness to find solutions for this collaboration to work but these are already evident in the planning and work between the two Communities of Faith.
Final Thoughts. Don’t get lost in the legalese-- confidentiality agreements can have grave importance for a farm or agri-business. Although the agriculture community has a trusting culture, maintenance of confidential information should not be taken lightly. It is highly suggested that farms and agri-businesses should speak to a licensed attorney before entering into a confidentiality agreement. -END- For more information contact: Xxxx Xxxxxxx, Esq. Final Thoughts. Feedback from one locality underscored the importance of considering sea level rise impact in capital projects. There was concern about the height of a bridge currently under construction and whether it would be affected by sea level rise too quickly to warrant the construction costs. A capital improvement project is a lengthy undertaking, and ensuring it will be accessible through its lifespan helps to ensure public funds are being used efficiently. Establishing standards for useful lifespans of different CIP projects, and requiring that sea-level rise be taken into account over the functional working life of a project could achieve this. For example, Poquoson, VA has recently installed all new pump stations above the 100- year flood level, using capital investment. • The Virginia Governor’s Commission recommended that the state discourage the use of public funding on infrastructure in areas highly vulnerable to flooding from sea level rise. • In Virginia, localities have been required to have a CIP to accept proffers. It should be noted that recent regulatory changes have affected the proffer system.
Final Thoughts. It is hard to imagine that our vulnerability to widespread system outages will decline over time; indeed, there are many who believe that the risks are an inevitable outgrowth of our growing reliance on technology. With systems increasingly moving into the cloud, increasing interconnection among various systems, AI systems becoming more common and businesses relying on a select group of the largest tech providers, we believe that the risks to multiple enterprises of any one critical vendor being subject to an outage will likely increase over time. No contract can ever eliminate the risk of an outage, or any other risk for that matter. But the preventative measures we have discussed above can reduce risk. Customers who have existing third-party agreements, or are planning to negotiate them, would be well advised to take the necessary time to review those agreements to obtain proper protections in light of the circumstances.
Final Thoughts. SHERA has been an unusual program, aimed not at a single research project but at something more comprehensive. It pursued a goal with eight distinct and significant targets, asked over 30 Indonesian and 12 U.S. HEIs to work together, brought public/private entities into the mix, spanned regions and institutional types, allocated program management responsibilities to HEIs that had never had them before, and aimed at tapping the unused research potential of lesser known institutions, women scholars, and the country as a whole. Above all, SHERA was about building capacity for future research as much as conducting it in the present. It was intended to change the Indonesian landscape for S&T research, both now and in the long-run. This was a tall order. Not every initiative worked. But most did. XXXXX’s impact is both broad and deep. It touched the research lives of hundreds of scholars and changed the research environment even at institutions where research had not previously been a priority. All this, while also pursuing innovative research on five priority issues for Indonesian development. SHERA cannot be assessed by a single measure but must be seen as the complex whole that it has been. And even with its shortened time frame, SHERA has established several important facts. First, with the right supports, a wide range of Indonesian HEIs succeeded in diving into significant, world-class research. Second, despite initial fears, Indonesian XXXx worked well together in these endeavors, sharing resources and finding mutual benefit. Third, building the scaffolding and relationships to undertake such research is a lengthy process, but provides a good return on this investment. Fourth, Indonesian HEIs have much to contribute to the development challenges facing the nation. Fifth, there is much to be gained by building even more comprehensive partnerships between U.S. and Indonesian HEIs. The time has come for Indonesia’s universities to be globally recognized for what they contribute to the country’s and the region’s development. SHERA has enabled over 1,200 scholars and 30 HEIs to see themselves in this endeavor. And, as discussed in Section D, the work they did during SHERA was a significant contributor to the exceptional showing Indonesia made in the 2020 THE Global Impact Rankings. Final Thoughts. The case studies included in this dissertation demonstrate the importance of using a technological approach to ceramic studies for addressing questions related to understanding the extension and organization of past communities’ networks and cultural ties. The interpretation of variability and changes in several aspects of the production process from the procurement of the raw materials to the forming stage, are pivotal to complement morpho-stylistic analysis and in mapping the cultural dimensions in which past individuals were embedded. Archaeologists are furnished with a broad set of techniques to assess technological traits, however, the highly variability in materials and production processes does not allow us to establish a firm and reliable methodology that can be employed regularly. The case studies presented are an example of how methodologies need to be tailored to the specific research questions and material encountered. As a final note, in this dissertation I tried to provide new insights into circum- Caribbean history. I consider that a focus on micro-scale processes with a practice- oriented approach to material culture as it was applied to pottery benefits future research in the region. Stressing that the learning process and discussing technological aspects are crucial to enable a connection between archaeological materials and the present-day society. In fact, it should be remembered that the American continents have been dramatically impacted by European colonization. The European invasion, with the exploitation of the Indigenous peoples, the arrival of enslaved Africans, and later indentured Asians have dramatically changed the world. As new technologies and social practices developed throughout the Colonial and post-colonial period, unravelling and recognizing the multiplicities of identities and sociocultural behaviors of the original peoples of the Americas allows us to better understand their legacies in today’s multi- cultural societies.
