Full-time Position with the Union – Full-time/Part-time Employees. Upon application by the Union, in writing, the Employer shall grant leave of absence, without pay, to an employee elected or appointed to full-time Union office. It is understood that no more than one (1) employee in the bargaining unit may be on such leave at the same time. Such leave shall be for a period of one (1) calendar year from the date of appointment unless extended for a further specified period by agreement of the parties. Full-time employees will accumulate seniority during such leave on basis of what his normal regular hours of work would have been. Service shall accumulate for employees during such leave to the maximum provided, if any, under the provisions of the collective agreement. It will become the responsibility of the employee for full payment of any applicable benefits in which the employee is participating during such leave of absence. The employee shall notify the Employer of his intention to return to work at least four (4) weeks prior to the date of such return. The employee shall be returned to his former duties on the same shift in the same department and at the appropriate rate of pay, subject to any changes which would have occurred had the employee not been on leave. Notwithstanding Clause 10.06, the Employer may fill the vacancy resulting from such leave on a temporary basis.
