General Safety Matters. 17.1. The Parties recognise that potential risks and hazards are in the nature of the construction industry. The Parties are committed to the continuous improvement of the Occupational Health & Safety standards through the implementation of all relevant Victorian and/or any other State or Federal legislation including but not limited to: • Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (“OH&S Act”) • Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017, • Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (where applicable) • Rail Safety National Law Application Act 2013, • Rail Safety National Law National Regulations 2012, • Road Management Act 2004, • Road Management Regulations 2016, • Dangerous Goods Act 1985 • Equipment (public Safety) Act 1994 • Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 • Code of Practice for worksite safety - Traffic Management 2023, • AustRoads Guild to Temporary Traffic Management Where an activity or procedure for which there is no technical regulation is to proceed, reference will be made to the appropriate compliance code, guidance guidelines or Australian Standard.

General Safety Matters. 14.1 Heavy Blocks Heavy blocks with a weight greater than 20kg are a significant manual handling risk and MUST NOT be used. Where possible heavy blocks with a weight less than 14kg should be designed and used on construction projects. At the design stage, blocks which reduce the risks of manual handling injuries i.e. lighter blocks must be sourced. Mechanical lifting devices, work planning, job layout, delivery of materials and good housekeeping are controls which should be considered to further reduce manual handling risks with heavy blocks.
14.2 Crane Erection and Jumping Cranes and man/material hoists may be erected and/or raised (jumped) during times when ordinary production works are in progress subject to the work being done in full compliance with a relevant site safety plan.
