Hourly-Paid and Casual Employees a) An employee on an unauthorized absence from work on a regularly scheduled work day immediately prior or immediately following a paid holiday shall not be entitled to pay for the holiday. b) Employees shall be given an entitlement for public holidays based on the average daily wage. The average daily wage is 5% of an employee’s wages, vacation pay and general holiday pay earned in the twenty-eight (28) days leading up to the general holiday. Overtime is not included in average daily wage calculation.

Hourly-Paid and Casual Employees a) An employee on an unauthorized absence from work on a regularly scheduled work day immediately prior or immediately following a paid holiday shall not be entitled to pay for the holiday. b) If the employee worked on the same day of the week as the day on which the general holiday falls, in at least 5 of the 9 weeks preceding the paid public holiday, the general holiday will be considered a day that would normally have been a work day for the employee. Employees shall be given an entitlement for public holidays based on the regular wages earned during the nine weeks before the week in which the general holiday occurs, and dividing by the number of work days in that period.

  • Casual Employees A casual employee is one who is not regularly scheduled to work other than during periods that such employee shall relieve a regular full-time or regular part-time employee. Casual employees accumulate seniority on an hourly basis and are entitled to such benefits as are contained in the “Addendum - Casual Employees”.
