Individual Grievance Informal Stage. The parties agree that any dispute giving rise to a grievance shall be dealt with at the local level; if such remedy is not available then the following shall apply. Any dispute to be recognized as a grievance shall be discussed by the Association, on behalf of a Teacher with the Director of Education or designate within fifteen (15) days of the time the Grievor should reasonably be expected to be aware of the relevant facts. Step I Failing satisfaction at the informal level, within ten (10) days, of no resolution the Association, on behalf of the Teacher, may submit the written grievance to the Director of Education or designate. The Board shall provide a letter of acknowledgement of receipt of the written letter of grievance to the Association. The Board shall arrange a meeting between the parties within ten (10) days of having received the written letter of grievance. The meeting shall be held at the Board Office during regular working hours of the Board. The Teacher shall be accompanied to the meeting by a representative of the Association. The decision of the Director of Education or designate shall be given to the Unit President by letter within five (5) days following the meeting and a copy of this decision shall be forwarded to the Teacher by the Association. Failing settlement of the grievance at Step I, the Association on behalf of the Teacher may proceed to Step II, within five (5) days after receipt of the decision of the Director of Education or designate. Step II Within twenty (20) days after receipt of the decision, or failing a reply of the Director of Education or designate to the submission of the grievance at Step I, the Association shall notify the Director of Education or designate by letter of its desire to proceed to arbitration.

  • Informal Grievance Procedure Employees are encouraged to act promptly to attempt to resolve disputes with their manager/supervisor through an informal procedure.
