Initial Discussion. Any employee or Union representative may discuss a grievance with the Fire Chief or with such subordinate management official as the Fire Chief may designate.

(b) Failing resolution of the complaint under (a), a vessel- based employee shall next discuss the complaint with the master/captain on the watch, or where the vessel is not operational, engineering employees shall discuss the complaint with the senior engineer officer. The employee and the master/captain or senior engineer officer, as applicable, shall make every reasonable effort to resolve the complaint during this discussion.

(d) The aggrieved employee shall have the right to have his/her Union shop xxxxxxx present at discussions under this clause.

11.04 Step 1 The Employee in the case of an individual Grievance, a group of Employees in the case of a group Grievance, or the Union in the case of an interpretation Grievance, shall submit the Grievance in writing to the Departmental Chair within thirty (30) working days of the knowledge of the facts which gave rise to the Grievance or fifteen (15) working days after the request for discussion, whichever is sooner. However, the Grievance must always be filed no later than ninety (90) working days after the occurrence of the fact on which the Grievance is based. The statement of the Grievance shall contain a clear summary of the facts on which it is based and the remedy sought so that the problems raised can be identified. A copy of the request for a discussion addressed to the Supervisor must also be included. Upon written request from the University or the Union, Union Representatives and University representatives may organize a meeting in order to discuss the Grievance, within fifteen (15) working days of receipt of the Grievance. The Departmental Chair shall respond in writing to the Grievance to the Employee with a copy to the Union Representative within ten (10) working days of the meeting described in the above paragraph, or if no such meeting occurs within twenty five (25) working days of receipt of the Grievance.

Any employee with an issue regarding the application of this Collective Agreement must discuss it with their supervisor, or designate in the supervisor’s absence, with the goal of resolving it. A request for discussion must be made in writing. If discussion between the employee and their supervisor does not resolve the issue, the Union may file a grievance.
Initial Discussion. An xxxxxxx effort shall be made to settle grievances fairly and promptly. An employee who believes he or she has a complaint or difference of a grievable nature shall first discuss such complaint or difference with his/her next immediate level of supervision within seven (7) working days of first becoming aware of the complaint or difference. If so requested by the employee their Union xxxxxxx may be present at this meeting. The Program Manager, or his/her designate, will be consulted before the employee's next level of supervision responds.
