LEAVE PAY. A. Teachers shall be credited eight (8) days sick leave per year at the beginning of the school year accumulative to one hundred (100) days. Teachers may not request personal business leave for a time when the teacher is scheduled for fall or spring conferences. Any violation of the foregoing provisions may subject the teacher to disciplinary action. If an employee has four (4) or more personal business days accumulated at the end of a school year, two (2) days shall be transferred to their accumulated sick leave. The days shall be converted automatically to sick leave unless the teacher provides written notice by June 1st of each school year that they do not desire such a conversion. D. A teacher absent from work because of mumps, scarlet fever, measles or chicken pox shall suffer no diminution of compensation and shall not be charged with sick-leave provided such diseases are present in the school system at that time and the teacher is not absent more than ten (10) days. In cases of pink eye, the teacher may be absent for one day without being charged a sick day. E. The Board will provide upon retirement from the Hartford Public Schools $60.00 for each unused sick day accumulated up to a maximum of 100 sick days into a 403b account of the teacher’s choice, provided that the employee gives notice by March 1. If the employee fails to provide notice by March 1, then the payment shall be $40 per day. If the employee who has an accumulation of 100 days at the beginning of the final school year and uses any sick days, thereby reducing the number of 100 accumulated days, the employee will be credited with the number of days reduced up to ten (10) days. LEAVE PAY. A. Teachers At the beginning of each school year each teacher shall be credited eight with twelve (8) 12) days sick of leave per year at to be used as needed. At the end of each school year, a teacher's unused personal days shall be added to his/her accumulated sick days. If a teacher, after using his/her two (2) personal business days taken in excess of stated above, needs up to three (3) additional personal days due to an emergency or a personal situation that can only be addressed during work time, these additional personal days may be granted by the earned one (1) day per month shall Superintendent. LEAVE PAY. The parties to this Agreement accept the philosophy that paid for leave is provided for the purpose of protecting the administrator's income during illness or accident and to assist during time of bereavement, religious holidays, professional growth and achievement, pressing personal business, and/or emergencies within the limits of accumulated leave time. It is understood that administrators who violate this principle will be subject to loss of leave compensation.
A. Reinstatement may depend upon a complete physical conducted by a Board appointed physician.

H. No employee shall forfeit accumulated leave days during approved leave of absence periods. However, the employee shall not be eligible to accrue or to use sick and emergency leave while on leave of absence.
(41) The employee who receives a jury duty interview and appearance notice must notify the Superintendent's office within one (1) school day of such notice. If an employee is summoned and reports for jury duty, the employee shall be paid the difference between the amount received as a juror and the normal week's pay, provided the employee is available for work within the regular work schedule when not occupied for jury duty. It is understood and agreed that an employee shall be required to report to work on any and all days when not sitting as a juror. To be eligible for jury duty pay differential, the employee must furnish the Employer with a written statement from the appropriate public official listing the amount and the dates the employee received pay for jury duty. Any employee found abusing this privilege shall not be entitled to the pay differential and will be subject to disciplinary action. Said disciplinary action is not subject to the Grievance Procedure.
(2) A leave of absence with full pay not chargeable against the employee's sick leave shall be granted for court appearance when subpoenaed as a witness in any case connected with the employee's employment or the school, provided the employee pays to the school district any sums received as subpoena fees.
J. Up to two days may be taken in any school yearby designated individuals for Union business approved by the Union and duly designated to these individuals. Personal business day or days canCost for substitutes, if any, will be covered by the Union. This does not count against the individual's personal leave.
K. Dock time is subject to the approval of the Superintendent. Teachers may use paid sick leave with pay in case of death or serious illness in the immediate family (spousewife, childrenhusband, parentschild, parents-in-lawmother, father, sister, brother, sistercorresponding in-laws, grandfather, grandmothergrandparent or one who has stood in that relationship). This The first five (5) days of emergency leave may also each school year will not count against accumulated sick leave. Subsequent leave under this Article within the same school year will be available in case of death or serious illness of any other person designated by a committee deducted from accumulated sick leave. A maximum of three (3) composed days (non-accumulative) per year shall be allowed for attendance at the funeral services of any person whose relationship to the teacher will warrant such attendance.

LEAVE PAY. A. 7. The Payroll Department must be notified in writing by the Chair of the Sick Leave Bank Committee or the Association President as to the number of days granted to each individual teacher.
8. The Association must keep reasonable records which are subject to review by the Administration.
9. If an individual teacher's sick leave days have been depleted, up to five (5) days, but no more than four (4) bereavement days may be taken granted from the sick leave bank for each death occurring in any school yearthe immediate family as an exception to Item 2 above.
10. Personal business day or These regulations may not be changed without mutual agreement between the Board and the Association.
11. A teacher may draw, from the sick leave bank, only that number of days necessary to meet the LTD qualifying period as specified in Article 25, Section C.
12. The use of sick bank days cannot be used to extend the last period during which the Board of Education pays fringe benefits unless the sick bank days are part of a ten day prior continuous block of time. The Board will cease to or pay fringe benefits for an employee who is off, when that employee's personal sick days have been exhausted, except as provided in the first day subsequent above sentence.
13. Habitual use of the sick bank program may be used to deny authorization.
D. Any teacher whose personal illness extends beyond the period compensated under this Article, shall be granted a regular leave of absence without pay for up to twelve (12) months if medical verification is presented to the Board within thirty (30) days of when their personal sick days have been exhausted. The leave of absence is renewable at the discretion of the Board. The teacher will be returned to an equivalent vacant teaching position the following September, earlier at the discretion of the Board of Education, upon medical verification that the teacher is now able to return to their full duties.
E. Teachers may use three (3) days leave for personal business, which cannot normally be handled outside school vacationhours, break or holiday such as Labor Daymedical, Thanksgivingfinancial, Christmaslegal, spring breakreligious, Good Friday emergency, or Memorial Dayother situations. Teachers are required to indicate general category that personal day will be used for, but will not be required to detail reason. Application for such leave must be made in writing. The request must be made three (3) days in advance of the date requested, except in the case of an emergency. Teachers may not request use personal business days adjacent to holiday and vacation time without the authorization of Central Office. Teachers may not use personal business days on a Professional Development day. Habitual use shall be used to deny authorization. Personal days will become sick days if not used.
F. Leave of absence with pay not chargeable against the teacher's sick leave for a time allowance shall be granted when the teacher is scheduled for fall or spring conferencescalled and serves on jury duty. Any violation The Board will pay the make-up pay portion between the daily rate of the foregoing provisions may subject teacher and what they receive from the court, less expenses. Retirement benefits will not be diminished by participation on jury duty. There shall be a limit of sixty (60) days on the Board's make up pay portion.
G. A teacher called by the Board to disciplinary actiontestify in court shall not suffer loss of pay. If an employee has four (4) or more personal business days accumulated Payment for other appearances shall be at the end discretion of a school year, two (2) days the Board. Approval for payment shall be transferred to their accumulated sick leave. The days shall be converted automatically to sick leave unless made by the teacher provides written notice by June 1st Board in advance of each school year that they do not desire such a conversionsaid appearance.
D. A teacher absent from work because H. The Board may request medical verification of mumps, scarlet fever, measles an employee's disability or chicken pox shall suffer no diminution of compensation and shall his/her ability to return to work.
I. Whenever school is closed for Act of God days teachers will not be charged with sick-leave provided such diseases for prearranged absences unless they are present not in the school system area (not at that time their normal abode) and the teacher is not absent more than ten (10) days. In cases of pink eye, the teacher may be absent available for one day without being charged a sick daywork.
E. J. The Board will provide upon retirement from Superintendent and LFEA President may mutually approve an individual voluntary donation of sick days outside the Hartford Public Schools $60.00 for each unused sick day accumulated up bank to a maximum of 100 sick days into a 403b account of the teacher’s choice, provided that the employee gives notice by March 1. If the employee fails to provide notice by March 1, then the payment shall be $40 per day. If the employee who has an accumulation of 100 days at the beginning of the final school year and uses any sick days, thereby reducing the number of 100 accumulated days, the employee will be credited with the number of days reduced up to ten (10) days. To be eligible teachers must qualify for and apply for retirement with the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement SystemLFEA member.
