LEAVE PAY. A. At the beginning of the second year of service only, all employees except those on unpaid leave of absence or layoff will be granted five (5) sick days to be credited during the first payroll period in which they work during the fiscal school year, and then accumulate one (1) day per month for each month of employment commencing fifteen work days after the first day of return to work. Sick days are to be used throughout the school year whenever the employee is unable to work due to personal or family sickness, accident, disability, or childbirth. The unused portion of yearly sick leave allowance shall accumulate to 75 days. During the first year of employment only, employees will be granted one sick leave day per month worked. In order to receive the one day per month credit, an employee must work at least fifteen (15) days during the month. B. Absence from duty shall be granted for illness in the immediate family (immediate family shall be interpreted as father, mother, parents-in-law, spouse, child, stepchild living in immediate household, brother, sister, or legal dependents.) Up to five (5) days bereavement leave per occurrence will be allowed each employee for a death in the immediate family (immediate family shall be interpreted as a father, mother, spouse, child, stepchild living in immediate household, brother, sister, or legal dependent.). These days shall be deducted from sick leave accumulation. One of these days may be used for death of mother- in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law or brother-in-law. D. The Board may require medical verification of illness where an employee's attendance record shows frequent absences. In such cases, the employee shall be notified in writing of the need for such verification prior to the absences for which the verification is required. E. On July 1 of each year, each employee shall be credited with two (2) days for regular school year employees and three (3) days for twelve (12) month employees, which may be used for personal business. This day will be non-accumulative. Unused days shall be converted to sick leave days on June 30. Such leave may be granted upon application submitted in writing to the Superintendent by the employee twenty-four (24) hours before the absence in case of personal business or after the absence in case of emergency. Personal business leave shall be used only in situations of urgency, for purposes of conducting personal business, which is difficult to transact on the weekend, before or after working hours or during vacation periods. An emergency is an unforeseen incident over which the individual has no control and requires immediate attention. The individual should and has made every effort in his power to resolve the situation without taking time off from work. Each case will be decided on its own merits. Such leave shall not be used for seeking other employment. Such leaves shall not be granted for hunting, fishing, shopping, or other recreational activities. Personal days shall not be used the day before or the day after a holiday except for an emergency, holiday related or vacation. F. Any employee whose personal illness extends beyond the accumulated sick leave shall be granted a leave of absence, without pay, for a period not to exceed one (1) year, provided that notification for said leave is made by the employee at least five (5) days before it is to become effective, except in cases of emergency. Reinstatement may depend upon a complete physical conducted by a Board appointed physician. X. A record of accumulated leave days will be maintained at the Superintendent's office and made available for inspection during the employee's non-working hours no later than September 15 of each school year. H. No employee shall forfeit accumulated leave days during approved leave of absence periods. However, the employee shall not be eligible to accrue or to use sick and emergency leave while on leave of absence. (1) The employee who receives a jury duty interview and appearance notice must notify the Superintendent's office within one (1) school day of such notice. If an employee is summoned and reports for jury duty, the employee shall be paid the difference between the amount received as a juror and the normal week's pay, provided the employee is available for work within the regular work schedule when not occupied for jury duty. It is understood and agreed that an employee shall be required to report to work on any and all days when not sitting as a juror. To be eligible for jury duty pay differential, the employee must furnish the Employer with a written statement from the appropriate public official listing the amount and the dates the employee received pay for jury duty. Any employee found abusing this privilege shall not be entitled to the pay differential and will be subject to disciplinary action. Said disciplinary action is not subject to the Grievance Procedure. (2) A leave of absence with full pay not chargeable against the employee's sick leave shall be granted for court appearance when subpoenaed as a witness in any case connected with the employee's employment or the school, provided the employee pays to the school district any sums received as subpoena fees. J. Up to two days may be taken by designated individuals for Union business approved by the Union and duly designated to these individuals. Cost for substitutes, if any, will be covered by the Union. This does not count against the individual's personal leave. K. Dock time is subject to the approval of the Superintendent. Employees may be garnted dock time when and if: a) an employee has expired personal day absences for the year and an unforeseen emergency arises that is not attributable to personal illness or family illness, or b) time away from work is needed during the regular school year and a request is made to the superintendent’s office no less than two (2) days prior to the anticipated absence.

LEAVE PAY. A. At All teachers shall be allowed twelve (12) days per year. For immediate family illness, the administration has the right to require the employee to provide verification from the family member’s attending physician that: 1. the individual under his/her care is seriously ill, and 2. that the illness requires the employee to be present with the family member. This verification by the attending physician shall be on a form provided the district. “Immediate Family” shall be interpreted as to include mother, father, sister, brother, husband, wife, son, daughter, parent-in-law, grandparents, step-parents, stepbrother, stepsister, stepchild, or any person who is a permanent resident of the household in which the employee is residing. B. Any teacher on sick leave for a longer period than that which they have accumulated, shall have one day of their salary deducted for each day’s absence beyond the number of accumulated sick leave days. C. When it becomes apparent to a building principal that a teacher is abusing his sick day leave, it will be the principal’s responsibility to inform the teacher involved. If the situation still exists, the superintendent will be notified and may have the teacher substantiate future absences for the remainder of the year. D. Teachers’ illness/sick leave will not be charged against his/her sick days when school is not in session. E. The Board will furnish each teacher with a written statement at the beginning of each year setting forth his/her total sick leave and business day credit. F. If, during the school year, the Superintendent is not able to get a teacher excused from jury duty, the Board of Education will pay the regular salary for jury duty. Any check for such jury duty will be sent to the Xxxxx Board of Education. G. Teachers voluntarily (i.e., including retirement and resignation) leaving the employ of the Board after at least ten (10) years service in the Xxxxx Consolidated Schools shall be paid eight dollars ($8.00) per day for each unused accumulated sick and/or business leave day in excess of sixty-five (65) days. Payment shall not be made for more than one hundred fifteen (115) days. H. Three (3) personal business days per year, with pay, shall be available to teachers for the purpose of emergency or for conducting business which cannot be normally carried on after school hours or on Saturday. Request for personal business days shall be made to the building principal at least twenty-four hours in advance, unless this is not possible due to an emergency. Personal business days should not be attached to holiday breaks and should not be used on any State testing dates, District examination dates, or Professional Development days. Should any personal business day request be denied by the building principal, an appeal may be made to the Superintendent. I. Personal business days that are not used will be transferred to sick leave at the end of the school year. A total of unused sick leave days and transferred personal business days are cumulative to a maximum of one hundred eighty (180) days. J. Leaves of absence with pay not chargeable against the teacher’s sick leave or personal business day allowance shall be granted for the following reasons: 1. A maximum of five (5) consecutive bereavement days per incident for a death of husband, wife, son, daughter, mother, father, brother, sister, grandparents, grandchildren, parents-in-law, spousestepparents, childstepbrother, stepchild living in immediate householdstepsister, brother, sisterstepchild, or legal dependents.) These any other member of the family who is a permanent resident of the household in which the employee is residing. Weekends will not be included in the five bereavement days. However, holidays and inclement weather days falling on Monday through Friday will be deducted from sick leave accumulation. C. Up included in the five (5) bereavement days. An employee may make a request to the Superintendent for additional days needed for travel purposes or personal business. The Superintendent, in his or her discretion, may grant up to five (5) days bereavement leave per occurrence additional days. Dock time Any teacher who can anticipate a prolonged disability which would cause the teacher to be absent from work for five (5) consecutive days or more (such as scheduled surgery, other confinement to home or hospital, including maternity) shall notify the building principal, in writing, as soon as possible. The notification shall contain the projected dates of absence. It is subject understood that use of sick leave shall be only for an unpaid leave of absence for up to one (1) year or receiving whatever sick leave benefits may be available only for the approval duration of the Superintendent. Absence from duty An employee shall be granted a maximum of three (3) bereavement days to attend the funeral of a member of his/her immediate family. All requests for illness leave time for funerals must be submitted in advance to the immediate family (immediate Superintendent/designee. C. Immediate family shall be interpreted defined as the employee’s spouse, child, employee’s mother, father, mothersister, parentsbrother, grandchild, grandparent, sister-in-law, spouse, child, stepchild living in immediate household, brother, sister, or legal dependents.) These days will be deducted from sick leave accumulation. C. Up to five (5) days bereavement leave per occurrence will be allowed each employee for a death in the immediate family (immediate family shall be interpreted as a father, mother, spouse, child, stepchild living in immediate household, brother, sister, or legal dependent.). These days shall be deducted from sick leave accumulation. One of these days may be used for death of mother- in-in- law, fatherson-in-law, sisterdaughter-in-law law, mother-in-law, or brotherfather-in-law. D. The Board may require medical verification of illness where an employee's attendance record shows frequent absences. In such casesUpon retirement, the employee employees shall be notified in writing paid twenty ($20.00) dollars per day for unused leave days up to a maximum of the need for such verification prior to the absences for which the verification is requiredthirty-five (35) days. E. On July 1 No days may be used before or after a school holiday/break without prior approval from their supervisor, except in the event of each year, each employee shall a documented illness or funeral of an immediate family member as identified in letter C above. F. Unpaid days may be credited with two granted at the discretion of the superintendent. All requests for unpaid days must be submitted in writing to the superintendent/designee at least three (23) days in advance when possible. A doctor’s note may be required if the absence is due to illness. An employee may be disciplined for regular school year employees unexcused absences. G. An employee may use up to three (3) personal business days during Christmas break and three (3) days for twelve (12) month employees, which may be used for personal business. This day will be non-accumulative. Unused days shall be converted to sick leave days on June 30. Such leave may be granted upon application submitted in writing to the Superintendent by the employee twenty-four (24) hours before the absence in case of additional personal business or after the absence in case of emergency. Personal business leave shall be used only in situations of urgency, for purposes of conducting personal business, which is difficult to transact on the weekend, before or after working hours or during vacation periods. An emergency is an unforeseen incident over which the individual has no control and requires immediate attention. The individual should and has made every effort in his power to resolve the situation without taking time off from work. Each case will be decided on its own merits. Such leave shall not be used for seeking other employment. Such leaves shall not be granted for hunting, fishing, shopping, or other recreational activities. Personal days shall not be used the day before or the day after a holiday except for an emergency, holiday related or vacation. F. Any employee whose personal illness extends beyond the accumulated sick leave shall be granted a leave of absence, without pay, for a period not to exceed one (1) year, provided that notification for said leave is made by the employee at least five (5) days before it is to become effective, except in cases of emergency. Reinstatement may depend upon a complete physical conducted by a Board appointed physician. X. A record of accumulated leave days will be maintained at the Superintendent's office and made available for inspection during the employee's non-working hours no later than September 15 of each school year. H. No employee shall forfeit accumulated leave days during approved leave of absence periods. However, the employee shall not be eligible to accrue or to use sick and emergency leave while on leave of absenceSpring Break. (1) The employee who receives a jury duty interview and appearance notice must notify the Superintendent's office within one (1) school day of such notice. If an employee is summoned and reports for jury duty, the employee shall be paid the difference between the amount received as a juror and the normal week's pay, provided the employee is available for work within the regular work schedule when not occupied for jury duty. It is understood and agreed that an employee shall be required to report to work on any and all days when not sitting as a juror. To be eligible for jury duty pay differential, the employee must furnish the Employer with a written statement from the appropriate public official listing the amount and the dates the employee received pay for jury duty. Any employee found abusing this privilege shall not be entitled to the pay differential and will be subject to disciplinary action. Said disciplinary action is not subject to the Grievance Procedure. (2) A leave of absence with full pay not chargeable against the employee's sick leave shall be granted for court appearance when subpoenaed as a witness in any case connected with the employee's employment or the school, provided the employee pays to the school district any sums received as subpoena fees. J. Up to two days may be taken by designated individuals for Union business approved by the Union and duly designated to these individuals. Cost for substitutes, if any, will be covered by the Union. This does not count against the individual's personal leave. K. Dock time is subject to the approval of the Superintendent. Employees may be garnted dock time when and if: a) an employee has expired personal day absences for the year and an unforeseen emergency arises that is not attributable to personal illness or family illness, or b) time away from work is needed during the regular school year and a request is made to the superintendent’s office no less than two (2) days prior to the anticipated absence.
