Leaves for ONA President. Upon application in writing by the Union on behalf of the employee to the Employer, a leave of absence shall be granted to such employee elected to the office of President of the Ontario Nurses’ Association. Notwithstanding Article 13.14, there shall be no loss of service or seniority for an employee during such leave of absence. During such leave of absence, the employee's salary and applicable benefits (or percentage in lieu of benefits) shall be maintained by the Employer and the Union agrees to reimburse the Employer in the amount of the full cost of such salary and applicable benefits (or percentage in lieu of benefits). It is understood, however, that during such leave the employee shall be deemed to be an employee of the Ontario Nurses’ Association. The employee agrees to notify the Employer of her or his intention to return to work at least two (2) weeks prior to the date of such return. Notwithstanding the above, the Employer and the Union may make alternate arrangements in respect to salary and benefit continuation.

If granting leave would compromise client care, then the Employer will not grant the leave, but will meet as soon as possible with the employee seeking the leave and the Union, and attempt to resolve matters such as to allow the employee a leave, and at the same time not compromise client care. An employee must provide as much written notice as possible of an intention to return to work after the leave, which shall in no case be less than two (2) weeks.
