The size of the foundation shall be determined by the cabinet to be installed. Control cabinet dimensions shall be according to NEMA TS2 Standard under Subsection 7.3 Cabinet Dimensions and shall be either NEMA Size 5 or 6. The concrete foundation shall have a 30-inch depth, and a length and width that measures 6 inches greater than the outside dimensions of the controller cabinet supplied. The top of the concrete foundation shall be installed at an elevation that is 18 inches above the finished grade. Anchor bolts are required as specified under Section 815 of the Standard Specifications and should be installed to center the controller cabinet on the foundation. A drain hole is required to drain water from within the cabinet to the outside of the cabinet foundation. A 1-inch P.V.C. pipe shall be installed as part of the poured foundation for use as a drain. Furnish and install a paved pad in front of the control cabinet. This pad may be of bituminous concrete or cement concrete, built in accordance with the sidewalk specification applicable to this project, approximately level, approximately 1-inch above the surrounding unpaved surface, or at even grade with the adjacent surface if paved. This pad shall abut the front of the controller cabinet foundation and project at least 1-inch to each side of the cabinet and at least 36-inches in front. No pad is required if the front of the cabinet immediately abuts an existing or proposed paved sidewalk or other paved surface.

Proper cable termination at signal heads, control cabinet and junction points shall be considered part of this item and shall be performed by the Contractor at no additional cost. Proper termination is defined as forming the required conductors and connecting them to the appropriate terminals within the signal heads, control cabinet or junction points where appropriate. Any splicing of cable shall be in conformance with Subsection 813.60 C. - Splicing.

Loop lead-in wire shall be spliced to the loop in the handhole or pull box and shall be installed to the controller cabinet without any additional splices.

ITEM 813.821 SERVICE CONNECTION MODIFIED EACH ITEM 813.822 ELECTRIC METER INSTALLATION EACH The work under these Items shall conform to the relevant provisions of Section 800 of the Standard Specifications and the following: The work shall include the modification of an existing service connection to a traffic signal control cabinet or the installation of new meters at locations directed by the Engineer. The work involved would include the disconnection and removal of the service conductor back toward the disconnect switch on a utility pole or the termination point within a manhole depending on the existing service provided. New service conductors and grounding cable shall be supplied and installed between the power source junction and the control cabinet. The Contractor shall coordinate all work with the local power service company.
