Parental and Adoption Leave and Benefits. Upon request by an Employee, a) who is the biological parent of a newborn or unborn child, or b) who is adopting or has adopted a child, the University shall grant parental leave consistent with the Employment Standards Act of New Brunswick. Subject to the Act, such leave may be taken wholly by one, or shared by two, employed parent(s). Where an Employee takes parental leave in addition to maternity leave, the Employee must commence the parental leave immediately on the expiry of maternity leave, unless the University and the Employee agree otherwise. Application for parental leave will be included with the application to take maternity leave in Article 10.07.1, except where substantially changed circumstances could not have reasonably been foreseen. The Employee will advise the appropriate Xxxx in writing of the expected date of delivery or adoption; and of his or her intention to take parental leave, including the anticipated commencement date and duration of such leave, as early as possible.
