Physician's Statement Required. A. When absences for more than three (3) consecutive working days or when abuse of the sick leave benefit is suspected, the department head may require the employee to furnish a certificate or statement from a regular licensed and practicing physician, at the employee's own expense, whose license will be honored by the County Health Officer, indicating the nature and duration of the employee's incapacity or other adequate evidence if the employee was not examined by a physician. The appointing authority may require evidence of incapacity in cases of short periods of absence and may require a medical examination when an employee returns to work with indications of continuing illness or disability.

Physician's Statement Required. Whenever any employee has been absent due to illness for a period of five (5) consecutive work days or more, he/she shall submit a statement from a physician indicating the nature of the illness or disability and the employee's ability to return to the regular duties of his position.
