Program Assistants. 1. Each employee shall be entitled to a minimum one-half (1/2) hour duty free lunch period outside of the regularly scheduled working hours as per Article IX, Item (F).
2. Each employee shall be entitled to a fifteen (15) minute paid break period in the morning and a fifteen (15) minute paid break period in the afternoon at times established by the administration.
3. Summer Work: By April 1st, the Director of Special Education and Program Supervisors will determine which summer programs will be available. By April 10th, Program Supervisors will ensure that 207 days program assistants have the first right to a summer placement AND offer any additional placements to program assistants working in classrooms that will be run during the summer (based on seniority). If additional summer positions are needed, they will be posted and awarded to the most qualified bargaining unit member applicant.

c. During regular work time an Assistant shall receive at least assistant’s pay for any work done. If an assistant substitutes for a teacher, the assistant shall receive substitute pay if that amount is greater than the assistant’s regular wage. The assistant must hold a substitute teaching license, a professional educator license or an educator license with stipulations that require a bachelor’s degree. An assistant who works in some other classification during non- regular work time will receive the pay for that classification.
d. In the event that an assistant is laid off and is recalled within a twelve (12) month period, all previously accrued benefits will be restored.
