Tuition Assistance. It is understood that the City Tuition Assistance Policy is in effect and replaces this article.
Tuition Assistance. Bargaining unit employees can enroll in university or college, vocational technical school or extension courses. The course may be by correspondence or attendance at classes during non-working hours or during working hours with approval of the Agency Head and/or his/her Designee. Where practicable, in relation to work requirements, the Employer shall be liberal with the approval of requests for accrued/unused vacation leave, flex-time scheduling, compensatory time, or leave without pay for the purpose of enabling employees to attend classes conducted during an employee's regularly scheduled work hours.
Tuition Assistance. 17.1 The University will provide for bargaining unit members and their eligible dependents the University Tuition Assistance Program as currently in effect and as may be amended by the University during the term of this contract. 17.2 Additional programs to include vocational training for the purpose of professional development and other two-year professional development programs may be implemented by the University upon consultation with the union.
Tuition Assistance. 31.1 The Employer and HPAE support employees in their efforts to continue their education that benefits the employee, the Health System and our patients. The Employer provides financial assistance to the employees for these educational endeavors. 31.2 During each calendar year, regular full-time and regular part-time employees who have completed their probationary periods shall be eligible for reimbursement of their tuition upon presenting proof of the successful completion of courses taken related to the attainment of nursing graduate or undergraduate degrees, as approved by the Employer. Approvals shall not be unreasonably denied. 31.3 Successful completion of the course shall be defined as achieving a passing grade if a “C” or pass in a pass/fail course or better for undergraduate courses, and a “B” or better for graduate courses. Tuition benefits shall not be paid of the employee is not employed in a regular full-time or part-time position at the time of completion of the course(s). The Employer shall be repaid by the employee in the event the employee does not remain employed in a full-time and/or part-time status by the employer for twelve (12) months following completion of the course(s). Annual limit Full-time Employee taking undergraduate and or graduate courses $5,000.00 Part-time Employee taking undergraduate and or graduate courses $2,500.00 31.4 Employees who have completed their probationary periods may request prepayment of Tuition Assistance upon submission of the Tuition Assistance Application with the understanding that such payments will not be made more than thirty (30) days before payment to the educational institution is due. 31.5 Should the Employee not provide evidence of successful completion, or is no longer employed in a full-time or part-time position at the completion of the course, or is not employed in a full-time or part-time position for a minimum of twelve (12) month period following the completion of the course, the Employee shall be required to repay any Tuition Assistance payments, except in cases where the employee is no long employed in a full-time and/or part- time status due to a layoff or bumping. Any unpaid leaves of absence shall not count toward the minimum twelve (12) month employment requirement.
Tuition Assistance. The following guidelines will apply to tuition reimbursement: An application form which shows the course work to be pursued, the credit to be carried, and the university to be attended shall be submitted to the Superintendent. Teachers seeking tuition assistance shall apply by April 1 for courses to be taken during the summer or in the first semester and by December 1 for courses to be taken during the second semester. Application deadlines may be extended by mutual agreement of the Board and Council 204. Preliminary approval shall be made as specified in Section 3.5. The Superintendent or the Superintendent’s designee shall reply within thirty (30) calendar days of application deadline. Evidence of satisfactory completion of the course shall be reported to the Superintendent at the end of the term for which the tuition assistance was granted. If the course is not satisfactorily completed, the amount will be reimbursed by the teacher to the District within thirty (30) days. To be eligible for reimbursement, the teacher must return to service in the District for the semester following the semester in which he or she completed the course. Any teacher failing to return for the full semester shall reimburse the Board for the amount provided for such course within thirty (30) days. No more than one course may be approved for any term for a teacher unless unclaimed funds are available. The cost of tuition or an amount not to exceed one half (1/2) of the hourly rate charged for a semester hour at the University of Illinois-Champaign.
Tuition Assistance. Position related courses or tuition assistance courses taken at Oakland University by a Bargaining Unit member which are approved by the Chief of Police or his/her designee prior to enrollment shall qualify for tuition reimbursement as provided below: a) The University will cover 100 percent (100%) of tuition costs at Oakland University. Cost of books, fees, travel and other expenses are not included. b) An employee must complete a Tuition Assistance Application and obtain the approval of the Chief of Police or his/her designee to take a course or courses as a part of this program. Applications are to be submitted during the established application period. Tuition will only be approved for courses within a degree-granting or certificate- granting program at Oakland University, as defined in the undergraduate or graduate catalog or for credit bearing courses at the University that are pre-requisites for entry into such program. OUWB School of Medicine, EMBA, and CRNA courses are excluded. c) Tuition for approved course(s) will be credited to the employee’s student account. Each member of the bargaining unit who has enrolled in an “approved” course(s) must earn a minimum 3.0 grade point average for each graduate course(s) and a 2.0 grade point average for each undergraduate course(s). If the employee does not successfully complete the course(s) with the appropriate grade point or withdraws from the course(s), the employee must repay OU for the tuition. The employee’s student account will be debited the appropriate amount. d) Dependents, spouses, Other Qualified Adults and Dependent Children of Other Qualified Adults of employees who meet the eligibility criteria for participation will be eligible to receive 50 percent (50%) tuition credit for OU courses(s). Dependents, spouses and repayment guidelines as set in 133c above. Dependents as defined by the Internal Revenue Service for federal income tax purposes. Tuition will only be approved for courses within a degree-granting or certificate-granting program at Oakland University, as defined in the undergraduate or graduate catalog or for credit bearing courses at the University that are pre-requisites for entry into such program. (d) Employer may approve tuition assistance towards education and training to obtain a professionally recognized certificate, or an accredited post-secondary education degree. 4 Per action taken on May 26, 2011, the County Council did not approve full funding for this provision. On that date, the Council adopted a different cost-sharing arrangement for bargaining unit employees, to become effective on January 1, 2012. See Appendix XXI. (e) Colleges and Universities attended with tuition assistance funds must be accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. (f) All other short term training programs must relate to the employee's current job or career ladder in the same job series or job profession. (g) The Employer may approve tuition assistance for tuition payments only. The Employer will not approve tuition assistance for examination fees and compulsory fees such as matriculation, registration, laboratory, and library fees. (h) The Employer will not approve credit by examination courses (Courses in which credit is obtained solely by taking an examination). (i) The Employer will not approve tuition assistance for books, supplies, or extra fees such as late registration or library book returns, parking, travel, food, lodging, and other costs incidental to the credit courses. (j) The Employer will continue the practice of not approving a tuition assistance benefit when the employee is receiving tuition payment/reimbursement for the same educational activity under other programs such as scholarships, veteran's benefits, grants, etc. (k) All classes approved for tuition assis...
