Schools Not in Session. When schools are not in session, the custodial staff will normally work the day shift, provided the schools are unoccupied. When a planned maintenance program requires the use of specialized equipment, the Board reserves the right to require custodial staff to work the afternoon shift.

Schools Not in Session. On days when Fairfield Schools are not in session, Transportation Department employees who are required to work will be paid but in no case less than three (3) hours pay for the morning (before 12:00 Noon) if worked and three (3) hours pay for the afternoon (after 12:00 Noon) if worked. Transportation Department employees who sign up to work open routes will be assigned by classification seniority order on a daily basis on days when Fairfield Schools are not in session.
Schools Not in Session. ‌ 1. For routes whose sole destination is outside of the District (i.e., Champion, Middlefield, etc.) the route will operate on the destination District’s calendar, including breaks and non-school days, with the Driver who normally runs the route. If this route requires less than the minimum number of yearly contractual workdays, the following will apply: a) The employee will report to the Transportation Supervisor on the first day or days on the AACS school calendar that the driver is not scheduled to work their regular run to determine if his/her services are needed. b) If his/her services are needed, the employee will be paid the greater of: 1) the hours the employee actually worked; or, 2) the number of hours the employee usually works. If the employee’s services are not needed, he/she will be paid their contractual number of hours. This shall continue until the driver has been paid for the minimum number of working days as required by this contract. If the route calls for more working days than the contractual amount, the driver shall work those days and be paid for all days worked. Should AACS declare a calamity day, the driver shall not transport any student(s) that day and will be paid in accordance with the applicable calamity day provisions of this Agreement. Should the destination school declare a calamity day, the following shall apply: a) The employee will report to the Transportation Supervisor to determine if his/her services are needed. b) If his/her services are needed the employee will be paid the greater of: 1) the hours the employee actually worked; or, 2) the number of hours the employee usually works. If the employee’s services are not needed, he/she will be paid their contractual number of hours. 2. For routes whose sole destination is not outside of the District (i.e., A-Tech, Parochial schools, etc.) and on days when school is not in session for the Ashtabula Area City Schools, separate routes will be created. The most senior drivers will be offered the work on a seniority rotation basis. The driver will be paid for actual hours worked with a minimum of four (4) hours, two (2) hours AM, two (2) hours PM), at the driver’s regular rate of pay.
