Open Routes. Assignments may be changed to meet the operational needs of the District. Employees who wish to be considered for open route assignments when they become available may provide the Department Executive Director with a written request to move to another route. Such request must contain the specific route for which the employee is interested in being considered. Route assignments and operational need are determined at the discretion of the District. Factors that may be considered in determining assignments may include, but not be limited to, demonstrated work performance, punctuality, attendance, and seniority.
Open Routes. The company will post the availability of open owner-operator routes and Owner Operators will have the opportunity to apply for such openings. Awarding of the route will be by seniority. In the event an employee requests to convert to become an Owner Operator and is awarded the route, he will be placed at the bottom of the seniority list.
Open Routes a. Open bus routes shall be offered to bus drivers only and awarded to the most senior. Subsequent vacancies shall then be offered to all bus drivers, as applicable, and awarded in seniority order.
b. Open transportation assistants/van routes shall be offered to transportation assistants only and awarded as in section 4a above.
Open Routes. If the regular Route driver is out due to vacation, illness or leave: Float drivers will be assigned first by seniority. If no Regular or Float drivers are available, temporary drivers may be assigned as per Article 6 Recognition, while more Float Drivers are being hired.

17 4. If a route is increased by thirty (30) minutes or more, and it is 18 apparent that the change will continue for more than nineteen (19) 19 consecutive days, the increased hours will be offered to drivers in 20 order of seniority within hourly assignment. If the route is increased 21 due to classroom overloads, such increase shall not be offered by 22 seniority and shall continue as long as the route requires or until the 23 end of school, whichever occurs first.
Open Routes. Routes eligible for bidding shall be defined as follows:

Open Routes a) Seniority shall apply with respect to choice of open routes. The bus driver having the greatest seniority shall be entitled to claim any open route.
b) If a bus route which is operated by a more senior bus driver is eliminated, that more senior bus driver may bump a less senior bus driver if the more senior bus driver chooses the bus route being operated by the less senior bus driver. Bus drivers shall be limited to one (1) voluntary change per year.
c) All open bus routes will be posted within five (5) work days of the vacancy and will remain posted for a minimum of seventy-two (72) hours or until bid upon thereafter.
d) A bus route shall be defined as a combination morning/ afternoon/after-school activity run, exclusive of kindergarten runs and vocational-technical school runs.
e) Bargaining unit employees shall only be able to select one run from each of the following categories: am, mid-day and pm; as long as all of the routes have been selected. Once the seniority list has been exhausted and if runs remain open, bargaining unit members shall be able to select an additional run in order of seniority.
Open Routes. Open routes shall be defined as newly established routes, routes that have been vacated when a driver moves from one route to another route, routes where employees have terminated or routes where an employee has been granted leave of absence for longer than twenty (20) calendar days for reasons other than disability and industrial injury as set forth in Section 8.3. Routes vacated by employees on leave for disability or industrial injury shall be defined as open routes at the expiration of the guaranteed return to position period. Such open routes will be posted, for two (2) work days and assigned in a timely manner after identification of the open routes, but actual implementation of the routes shall not take place until the next pay period. Movement caused by drivers bidding on an open route shall be limited to three (3) drivers per open route. Drivers can only bid one (1) open route between bid periods. A driver may only drop an existing midday route at this time if it conflicts with the new route being bid by the driver. The rules for open routes, as provided by Article 5.2 of the contract, shall apply. Open routes may be filled by drivers without any regular route until filled by the process noted above. Seniority shall start and benefits shall be authorized for drivers who accept open routes until the next rebid period. 3. No driver or aide can bid for a route if they are on leave (personal or worker’s compensation). They must be working at the time the bid is open.
