TEACHING HOURS. 1. A grade PPI-12 teacher's workday shall consist of not more than seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutes of formal responsibility. Hall duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. The student day may be increased if necessary to meet the State time requirements for instructional hours. Within said time of formal responsibility, a teacher shall be entitled to the following: (a) A duty free lunch period no less than twenty-five (25) minutes to a maximum of thirty-five (35) minutes. (b) For a grade ECSE-5 grade teacher: a minimum of 250 minutes per week of time for preparation. Each preparation period to consist of a minimum of twenty-five (25) duty-free minutes. For a grade 6-12 teacher: a minimum of one preparation per day that shall be equivalent to a normal teaching period or an average of five normal teaching periods per week. (c) Cafeteria duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made to obtain volunteers for this duty, which will be in lieu of a class period. If no volunteer is available who can be scheduled, the administration may assign a teacher to such duties. No teacher may be involuntarily assigned these duties for more than one consecutive year. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. (d) Attendance at 6th grade camp shall be voluntary. 2. Before and/or after school, a grade ECSE-12 teacher shall be attending to his/her teaching duties in his/her building for up to thirty (30) minutes but not to exceed the workday of seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutes. At the beginning of each year, the administration at each level shall determine what portion of the above times will be used before and after school. Teacher input will be encouraged. It is expressly understood that an individual teacher's day may be adjusted to facilitate the administration of the individual building. Early leave may be granted at the discretion of the Administration. 3. The daily preparation period will first be used for such things as thorough preparations, conferences with parents, teachers, and administrators, I.E.P.T.'s, and special assistance to students. 4. Activities involving teachers beyond the scope of the formal teaching day shall be determined cooperatively between a faculty selected committee and the administration at that level. Teachers shall be given forty-eight (48) hour notice of such activities and shall be encouraged and expected by the Association to attend. Special teachers shall be encouraged to attend as their time and schedules allow. 5. In the event that it becomes necessary to determine a new building schedule, a committee will be formed, comprised of an equal number of administrators and teachers to examine alternative scheduling. A recommendation on the study will be presented to the superintendent. No recommendation will be made that would jeopardize accreditation. 6. A teacher’s building assignment shall be determined by where he/she is assigned for over half of his/her schedule. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have their workday schedule determined by the building administrators. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have a minimum of 30 minutes for travel. If the travel time encumbers the teacher’s preparation period or duty free lunch, or extends the teacher’s day beyond the contractual limits, then the teacher shall be paid for a minimum of thirty (30) minutes at the teacher’s per diem rate (unless this time is recouped through other minutes during the day).

Elementary teachers shall have all the time during which their classes are receiving instruction from special instructors in music (35 minutes), art (45 minutes), physical education (35 minutes), and library (20 minutes) for conference time. The administration will first seek volunteers to have more than one block per day if necessary. If there are no volunteers, the least seniored teacher will have a faculty selected committee day with two blocks, however, this shall not occur more than one year in a row. If there is more than one volunteer, the most seniored teacher will prevail. Should the Administration schedule an assembly during the teacher’s conference period and the administration Administration requires that teacher to report, said teacher shall be paid professional rate for the assembly. D. Each secondary teacher shall be scheduled at that least a thirty (30) minute duty-free lunch period each day. Elementary teachers shall have at least a thirty-five (35) minute duty-free lunch period each day. E. Teaching a class during a conference/planning period. (1) A teacher agreeing to teach a class during a normally unassigned period shall be paid at the following rate: (a) One hour at the professional activity rate per period at the secondary level; (b) One hour at the professional activity rate per period at the elementary level. (c) The hourly rates set forth above are based upon five (5) teaching periods at the secondary level and the special times outlined in section 9.2.C. for the elementary level. Teachers Any change in the number of teaching periods at the secondary level will result in a proportional increase or decrease in the hourly rate. (a) A teacher agreeing to teach during his/her conference period on a “permanent basis” shall be given forty-eight (48) hour notice of such activities and shall be encouraged and expected by compensated as follows: 1. A teacher agreeing to teach an extra class at the Association to attend. Special teachers shall be encouraged to attend as their time and schedules allow. 5. In the event that it becomes necessary to determine a new building schedule, a committee secondary level will be formed, comprised of an equal number of administrators and teachers to examine alternative scheduling. A recommendation on the study will be presented to the superintendent. No recommendation will be made that would jeopardize accreditation. 6. A teacher’s building assignment shall be determined by where he/she is assigned for over half paid one-fifth (1/5) of his/her schedule. A teacher who has a split building assignment contractual salary. (b) For the purposes of this section, the term “permanent basis” will have their workday schedule determined by the building administrators. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have a minimum of 30 minutes for travel. If the travel time encumbers the teacher’s preparation mean an extended period or duty free lunch, or extends the teacher’s day beyond the contractual limits, then the teacher over five (5) working days; teachers shall be paid for a minimum of thirty (30) minutes reimbursed at the teacher’s per diem rate (unless this time is recouped through other minutes during rates above retroactive to the day)first date of said assignment.

Activities involving Employees covered by this Agreement in special services and guidance shall work thirty-six (36) hours and fifteen (15) minutes per week. The scheduling of such hours will be made by mutual agreement between the individual employees and his/her respective supervisor. On days when their schedule requires teachers beyond to travel between schools in the scope district, bargaining unit members may be assigned duties at the beginning or end of the formal teaching day shall day. On those days when bargaining unit members are not required to travel between schools in the district, they may be determined cooperatively between a faculty selected committee and assigned duties at any time during the administration at that level. Teachers shall be given forty-eight (48) hour notice of such activities and shall be encouraged and expected by the Association to attend. Special teachers shall be encouraged to attend as their time and schedules allowday. 5. In Part-time teachers will maintain the event that it becomes necessary same proportional work load as a full time teacher. Part-time teachers are expected to work with their supervisor to determine a new building schedulewhich faculty meetings, a committee department meetings, and professional development they will be formed, comprised of an equal number of administrators and teachers to examine alternative scheduling. A recommendation on the study will be presented to the superintendent. No recommendation will be made that would jeopardize accreditationattend. 6. A teacher’s building assignment Any member of the bargaining unit who is directed by the Superintendent of Schools to work beyond the work year pursuant to Section E, shall be determined by where he/she is assigned for over half compensated at their respective per diem rate. B. The teaching staff shall have the opportunity to leave fifteen (15) minutes following the conclusion of the pupils’ school day on Friday. C. A teacher shall be in his/her scheduleclassroom or building for as much time, either before or after the hours indicated in Section A.2 above, as he/she, in his/her professional judgment, determines is necessary to provide adequately for his/her programs and children. TEACHING HOURS. A. The parties hereto recognize that the varying nature of an employee’s day-to-day professional responsibilities does not lend itself to an instructional day of rigidly established length. The normal school-based assignment hours are as follows: 1. A grade PPI-12 Each employee shall be required to report for work fifteen (15) minutes before the scheduled beginning of his/her first period and shall be required to remain until his/her professional duties are completed. Kindergarten teachers’ minimum on-site school based assignment hours shall be no less than those for teachers in Grades 1, 2, and 3. Each kindergarten teacher's workday ’s actual on-site schedule will be determined in consultation with the other site kindergarten teachers and his/her school level administrator, with first consideration given to the teacher’s duties as they relate to his/her class. 2. The normal hours of pupil instruction for employees teaching at the elementary school level shall consist not exceed: Kindergarten 300 minutes per day or 1,500 per week Grades 1, 2, 3 312 minutes per day or 1,490 per week Grades 4, 5, 6 327 minutes per day or 1,550 per week 3. Full-time bargaining unit members teaching regular grades 4 through 6 in self-contained classrooms will be provided with 33 hours of on-campus preparation time at times designated by the District. Such preparation time will be provided as a result of a physical education pull-out program. 4. The District will institute a Modified Day Schedule for grades 1 through 6 for the purposes of on-campus preparation time on Wednesdays of each week except when a legal holiday falls on a Wednesday and during fall parent conference weeks. For the purposes of this program, a Modified Day Schedule shall be 90 minutes less than a regular day schedule. 5. The normal hours of pupil instruction for employees teaching at the junior high level shall not exceed 310 minutes per day, such time to include six (6) consecutive periods of equal duration, one of which shall be a preparation period; except that periods need not be of equal length in order to accommodate a home room period or special or emergency schedules; and except that the assignments need not be in consecutive periods if the employee volunteers and, also, with the provision that on a nonvoluntary basis, no employee shall be assigned a nonconsecutive schedule more than one grading period out of three. 6. At the junior high level, any teacher required to change classrooms more than twice per day (three classrooms) per grading period will not be required to do so again until two additional grading periods have passed. 7. For the purpose of parent conferences, all regular classroom teachers, Grades one through six shall be provided with two (2) regularly-scheduled conference periods per-year, as follows: a. One (1) conference period which shall not exceed seven (7) hours and ten consecutive modified days as defined in paragraph A.4 above, and, b. One (101) minutes of formal responsibility. The student day may be increased if necessary to meet the State time requirements for instructional hours. (b) For a grade ECSE-5 grade teacher: a minimum of 250 minutes per week of time for preparation. Each preparation period to consist of a minimum of twenty-five (25) duty-free minutes. For a grade 6-12 teacher: a minimum of one preparation per day that shall be equivalent to a normal teaching period or an average of five normal teaching periods per week. (c) Cafeteria duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made to obtain volunteers for this duty, which will be in lieu of a class period. If no volunteer is available who can be scheduled, the administration may assign a teacher to such duties. No teacher may be involuntarily assigned these duties for more than one consecutive year. Each preparation period to consist of a minimum of twenty-five (25) duty-free minutes. For a grade 6-12 teacher: a minimum of one preparation per day that shall be equivalent to a normal teaching period or an average of five normal teaching periods per week. (c) Cafeteria duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made to obtain volunteers for this duty, which will be in lieu of a class period. If no volunteer is available who can be scheduled, the administration may assign a teacher to such duties. No teacher may be involuntarily assigned these duties for more than one consecutive year. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration elementary and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. (d) Attendance at 6th grade camp shall be voluntary. 2. Before and/or after school, a grade ECSE-12 teacher shall be attending to his/her teaching duties in his/her building for up to thirty (30) minutes but for secondary of duty-free lunch period from all school-related activities daily. Noon hour supervision on the elementary level shall be assumed by a legally competent adult other than a member of the school staff. Noon hour supervision on the secondary level shall continue as presently established. D. Staff members shall attend all school functions scheduled during periods they would normally be assigned classes. Teacher assistance in the selection of assemblies will be solicited. E. All teachers shall attend up to one (1) hour of required teachers’ meetings a month, general or divisional, beginning no later than twenty (20) minutes after the dismissal of the students or no earlier than one (1) hour prior to the start of the regular student day. The administration shall not schedule more than one (1) required meeting per month and shall specify which meetings are required. Any additional meetings shall be considered voluntary. Unless the building administrator shall excuse the teacher prior to exceed the workday of seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutesrequired meetings, teachers are expected to attend. At least five (5) days’ notice will be given prior to a scheduled teachers’ meeting. F. Part-time teachers shall be expected to attend all required monthly teachers’ meetings, departmental meetings, grade level meetings and parent-teacher conferences as a full-time employee. Attempts shall be made to vary the beginning meeting days and times. Teachers who have an assignment that is less than full-time are expected to fully participate in all district/building professional development and records day. Teachers will be compensated for a full day of each yearwork on a per diem basis at their individual daily rate of pay per the current salary schedule for these Days. G. In the event that the student dismissal times are later than 3:00 p.m., the administration at each level shall determine what portion will work with the Hudsonville coaches adversely affected by this change to provide appropriate classroom supervision so that those coaches are able to attend the games and contests they coach in a timely manner. In the event a coach’s teaching schedule does not allow the coach to be present for team practices immediately after the dismissal of secondary students, the administration will assist in scheduling appropriate practice times taking into consideration the teacher’s work day, and provide appropriate supervision of the above students between school dismissal and their practice time. X. Xxxxxx-teacher conferences shall be scheduled during the times specified in the calendar (Appendix C) or as otherwise mutually agreed to. In the event the teacher does not have individually scheduled conferences, he/she shall be present in the building during the normal hours of the work day and for at least three (3) hours during the evening conference periods. 1. The normal weekly teaching load in the middle school and senior high school will be twenty-five teaching assignments, not to exceed (5) periods per day and a minimum of five (5) conference periods (Teachers teach five periods of a six period day, with one preparation period and 30 minutes for lunch concurrent with the student lunch). A grade PPI-12 teacher's workday study hall shall consist of be considered a teaching assignment. C. All elementary teachers not taking a compensatory voluntary duty shall be entitled to a maximum of thirty-five (35) minutes. (b) For a grade ECSE-5 grade teacher: a minimum of 250 minutes per week of time for preparation. Each preparation period to consist of a minimum of twenty-five (25) duty-free minutes. For a grade 6-12 teacher: a minimum of one preparation per day that shall be equivalent to a normal teaching period or an average of five normal teaching periods per week. (c) Cafeteria duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made to obtain volunteers for this duty, which will be in lieu of a class period. If no volunteer is available who can be scheduled, the administration may assign a teacher to such duties. No teacher may be involuntarily assigned these duties for more than one consecutive year. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. (d) Attendance at 6th grade camp shall be voluntary. 2. Before and/or after school, a grade ECSE-12 teacher shall be attending to his/her teaching duties in his/her building for up to thirty (30) minutes but minute duty free uninterrupted lunch period. D. A teacher directly involved in negotiation during the school day, negotiating on behalf of the Association with any representative of the Board, or participating in any professional grievance negotiation, shall be released from regular duties without loss of salary. Teachers of music, art, physical education and laboratory sciences, librarians, counselors, and all special education teachers shall be provided preparation time to the same extent as other teachers in the District. F. If a substitute is not available for special teachers and the regular teacher is required to exceed the workday be responsible for supervision of seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutes. At the beginning of each yearhis/her students during this time, the administration regular teacher will be compensated at each level the internal substitute rate as specified in Article XII of this agreement. G. The teachers of the Tahquamenon Area Schools shall determine what portion make themselves available for the following: i. Two three-hour parent-teacher conferences per year and a one-hour fall open house per year. The date for the fall open house will not be more than two weeks prior to the start of the school year unless mutually agreed upon by both the Board and the Association. ii. One 60 minute staff meeting per month (8 total) to be conducted after 2:50 pm. iii. One 90 minute delayed start per month (9 total) for staff meetings; teachers will arrive at regular time and classes will start at 9:30 am. iv. Staff will be notified of the complete schedule of dates for all of the above times will be used before and after school. Teacher input will be encouraged. It is expressly understood that an individual teacher's items by the first day may be adjusted to facilitate the administration of the individual building. Before and/or after school, a grade ECSE-12 teacher shall be attending to his/her teaching duties in his/her building for up to thirty (30) minutes but for secondary of duty-free lunch period from all school-related activities daily. Noon hour supervision on the elementary level shall be assumed by a legally competent adult other than a member of the school staff. Noon hour supervision on the secondary level shall continue as presently established. D. Staff members shall attend all school functions scheduled during periods they would normally be assigned classes. Teacher assistance in the selection of assemblies will be solicited. E. All teachers shall attend up to one (1) hour of required teachers’ meetings a month, general or divisional, beginning no later than twenty (20) minutes after the dismissal of the students or no earlier than one (1) hour prior to the start of the regular student day. The administration shall not schedule more than one (1) required meeting per month and shall specify which meetings are required. Any additional meetings shall be considered voluntary. Unless the building administrator shall excuse the teacher prior to exceed the workday of seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutesrequired meetings, teachers are expected to attend. At least five (5) days’ notice will be given prior to a scheduled teachers’ meeting. F. Part-time teachers shall be expected to attend all required monthly teachers’ meetings, departmental meetings, grade level meetings and parent-teacher conferences as a full-time employee. Attempts shall be made to vary the beginning meeting days and times. Teachers who have an assignment that is less than full-time are expected to fully participate in all district/building professional development and records day. Teachers will be compensated for a full day of each yearwork on a per diem basis at their individual daily rate of pay per the current salary schedule for these Days. G. In the event that the student dismissal times are later than 3:00 p.m., the administration at each level shall determine what portion will work with the Hudsonville coaches adversely affected by this change to provide appropriate classroom supervision so that those coaches are able to attend the games and contests they coach in a timely manner. In the event a coach’s teaching schedule does not allow the coach to be present for team practices immediately after the dismissal of secondary students, the administration will assist in scheduling appropriate practice times taking into consideration the teacher’s work day, and provide appropriate supervision of the above students between school dismissal and their practice time. The daily Bargaining unit members teaching regular grades 1 through 3 in self-contained classrooms will be provided with 28 periods of on-campus preparation period time, each 30 minutes in length, at times designated by the District. Bargaining unit members teaching regular grades 4 through 6 in self-contained classrooms will first be used for such things provided with 33 hours of on-campus preparation time at times designated by the District. Such preparation time will be provided as thorough preparations, conferences with parents, teachers, and administrators, I.E.P.T.'s, and special assistance to studentsa result of a physical education pull-out program. 4. Activities involving teachers beyond the scope of the formal teaching day A Modified Day Schedule shall be determined cooperatively between 90 minutes less than a faculty selected committee regular day schedule. The District will institute a Modified Day Schedule for grades 1 through 6 for the purposes of on-campus preparation time on Wednesdays of each week except when a legal holiday falls on a Wednesday and the administration at that level. Teachers shall be given forty-eight (48) hour notice of such activities and shall be encouraged and expected by the Association to attend. Special teachers shall be encouraged to attend as their time and schedules allowduring fall parent conference weeks. 5. For the purpose of parent conferences, all regular classroom teachers, grades one through six shall be determined by where he/she is assigned for over half provided with three (3) regularly-scheduled conference periods per-year, as follows: a. One (1) conference period which shall not exceed two (2) modified days, not to be scheduled on a Wednesday planning day as defined in paragraph A.4 above. b. One (1) conference period which shall not exceed five (5) consecutive modified days and, c. One (1) conference period which shall not exceed three (3) modified days, not to be scheduled on a Wednesday planning day. 8. For the purposes of his/her schedule. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have their workday schedule determined by the building administrators. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have a minimum of 30 minutes for travel. The School District may schedule the start of classes thirty (30) minutes before or after an elementary starting time of 8:40 a.m. and a secondary starting time of 7:30 a.m. Any other starting time for an elementary or secondary school shall require negotiations with the Association. This provision will not have the effect of lengthening the school day. As a matter of professional courtesy, the BEA shall be included informed of any such consideration, while it is in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have their workday schedule determined by the building administrators. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have a minimum of 30 minutes for travel. If the travel time encumbers the teacher’s preparation period or duty free lunch, or extends the teacher’s day beyond the contractual limits, then the teacher shall be paid for a minimum of thirty (30) minutes at the teacher’s per diem rate (unless this time is recouped through other minutes during the day).

If no volunteer is available who can be scheduled, the administration may assign a teacher to such duties. No teacher may be involuntarily assigned these duties for more than one consecutive year. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration elementary and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. (d) Attendance at 6th grade camp shall be voluntary. 2. Before and/or after school, a grade ECSE-12 teacher shall be attending to his/her teaching duties in his/her building for up to thirty (30) minutes but not for secondary of duty-free lunch period from all school-related activities daily. Noon hour supervision on the elementary level shall be assumed by a legally competent adult other than a member of the school staff. Noon hour supervision on the secondary level shall continue as presently established. D. Staff members shall attend all school functions scheduled during periods they would normally be assigned classes. Teacher assistance in the selection of assemblies will be solicited. E. All teachers shall attend up to exceed the workday of seven two (72) hours of required teachers’ meetings a month, general or divisional, beginning no later than twenty (20) minutes after the dismissal of the students or no earlier than one (1) hour prior to the start of the regular student day. The administration shall not schedule more than two (2) required meetings per month and ten (10) minutesshall specify which meetings are required. Any additional meetings shall be considered voluntary. Unless the building administrator shall excuse the teacher prior to the required meetings, teachers are expected to attend. At least five (5) days’ notice will be given prior to a scheduled teachers’ meeting. F. Part-time teachers shall be expected to attend all required monthly teachers’ meetings, departmental meetings, grade level meetings and parent-teacher conferences as a full-time employee. Attempts shall be made to vary the beginning meeting days and times. Teachers who have an assignment that is less than full–time are expected to fully participate in all district/building professional development and records days. Teachers will be compensated for a full day of work on a per diem basis at their individual daily rate of pay per the current salary schedule for each yearof these days. G. In the event that the student dismissal times are later than 3:00 p.m., the administration at each level shall determine what portion will work with the Hudsonville coaches adversely affected by this change to provide appropriate classroom supervision so that those coaches are able to attend the games and contests they coach in a timely manner. In the event a coach’s teaching schedule does not allow the coach to be present for team practices immediately after the dismissal of secondary students, the administration will assist in scheduling appropriate practice times taking into consideration the teacher’s work day, and provide appropriate supervision of the above students between school dismissal and their practice time. H. Parent-teacher conferences shall be scheduled during the times will specified in the calendar (Appendix C) or as otherwise mutually agreed to (for calendar considerations see G. 5., below). Part-time teachers shall be expected to attend all required monthly teachers’ meetings, departmental meetings, grade level meetings and parent-teacher conferences as a full-time employee. Attempts shall be made to vary the beginning of each yearmeeting days and times. Part-time teachers that are requested and choose to attend professional development time that occurs on their scheduled time off shall be compensated for such time at the curriculum work rate under Article XXI, Section B.4. E. In the event that the student dismissal times are later than 3:00 p.m., the administration at each level shall determine what portion will work with the Hudsonville coaches adversely affected by this change to provide appropriate classroom supervision so that those coaches are able to attend the games and contests they coach in a timely manner. Under normal and routine circumstances, sixth, seventh and eighth grade PPI-12 teacher's teachers shall have at least forty (40) consecutive minutes within one school day or 80 consecutive minutes if on a block schedule within two school days of unassigned time exclusively for preparation and planning. Under normal and routine circumstances, fourth, and fifth grade teachers shall have at least forty (40) consecutive minutes of unassigned time within each school day set aside exclusively for preparation and planning. F. Under normal and routine circumstances, TK through third grade teachers shall have at least sixty (60) consecutive minutes of unassigned time per school day set aside exclusively for preparation and planning. G. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. (d) Attendance at 6th grade camp shall be voluntary. 2. A teacher’s building assignment shall be determined by where he/she is assigned for over half of his/her schedule. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have their workday schedule determined by the building administrators. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have a minimum of 30 minutes for travel. If the travel time encumbers the teacher’s preparation period or duty free lunch, or extends the teacher’s day beyond the contractual limits, then the teacher shall be paid for a minimum of thirty (30) minutes at the teacher’s per diem rate (unless this time is recouped through other minutes during the day).

TEACHING HOURS. A. No teacher shall be required to report for duty earlier than fifteen (15) minutes before the opening of the pupils’ regular school day in the morning. Teachers shall be permitted to leave 15 minutes after the close of the pupils’ regular school day. Teachers are encouraged to remain a sufficient period after the close of the scheduled school day to attend to those matters that properly require attention at that time, including consultations with parents when‌ scheduled directly with the teacher. On days preceding holidays or vacations, the teacher’s day shall end at the close of the pupil day. B. The normal weekly teaching load in the junior and senior high school will be 25 teaching periods per week. The schedules of all teaching personnel shall conform to those stated in Appendix A of this Agreement. C. Vocal and instrumental music and physical education shall remain as an integral part of the total school curriculum throughout the duration of this Agreement. D. The elementary vocal and theory music programs (1. All teachers shall attend up to one (1) hour of required teachers’ meetings a month, general or divisional, beginning no later than twenty (20) minutes after the dismissal of the students or no earlier than one (1) hour prior to the start of the regular student day. The administration shall not schedule more than one (1) required meeting per month and shall specify which meetings are required. Any additional meetings shall be considered voluntary. Unless the building administrator shall excuse the teacher prior to exceed the workday of seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutesrequired meetings, teachers are expected to attend. At least five (5) days’ notice will be given prior to a scheduled teachers’ meeting. F. Part-time teachers shall be expected to attend all required monthly teachers’ meetings, departmental meetings, grade level meetings and parent-teacher conferences as a full-time employee. Teachers who have an assignment that is less than full-time are expected to fully participate in all district/building professional development and records day. Teachers will be compensated for a full day of each yearwork on a per diem basis at their individual daily rate of pay per the current salary schedule for these days. G. In the event that the student dismissal times are later than 3:00 p.m., the administration at each level shall determine what portion will work with the Hudsonville coaches adversely affected by this change to provide appropriate classroom supervision so that those coaches are able to attend the games and contests they coach in a timely manner. In the event a coach’s teaching schedule does not allow the coach to be present for team practices immediately after the dismissal of secondary students, the administration will assist in scheduling appropriate practice times taking into consideration the teacher’s work day, and provide appropriate supervision of the above students between school dismissal and their practice time. H. Parent-teacher conferences shall be scheduled during the times specified in the calendar (Appendix C) or as otherwise mutually agreed to (for calendar considerations see G. 5., below). Teachers shall be present during the times the teacher has scheduled individual conferences. TEACHING HOURS. 1A. The length of the teacher work day will be determined when the calendar is established for the school year. For a grade 6-12 teacher: a minimum of one preparation per day that shall be equivalent to a normal teaching period or an average of five normal teaching periods per week. (c) Cafeteria duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made to obtain volunteers for this duty, which will be in lieu of a class period. If no volunteer is available who can be scheduled, the administration may assign a teacher to such duties. No teacher may be involuntarily assigned these duties for more than one consecutive year. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration elementary and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. (d) Attendance at 6th grade camp shall be voluntary. 2. The parties agree that some modifications may be necessary in this format. No modification by the administration shall increase the clock hours beyond seven (7) hours and fifteen (15) minutes per day. The primary purpose of the 15 minutes is to meet state-mandated instructional hour requirements. 2. The Board agrees that the maximum total teacher time excluding extra curricular activities for teachers shall not exceed seven (7) hours, fifteen (15) minutes per day. 3. All Teachers shall receive a duty free uninterrupted lunch period of at least thirty (30) minutes. 4. The Board agrees that elementary teachers shall not be required to be with their students whenever they are receiving instruction by a certified teacher such as art, music, physical education, etc. 5. The Board agrees that elementary teachers will not be assigned recess duties. 6. Each teacher’s daily schedule shall include at least one period for conference and preparation time. It is understood that each teacher’s conference preparation period shall be commensurate with the length of one instructional period in the secondary schools and at least forty (40) consecutive minutes in the elementary schools. Deviations at the elementary level shall not exceed ten percent (10%) minutes of formal responsibility. Hall duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. The student day may be increased if necessary to meet the State time requirements for instructional hours. Within said time of formal responsibility, a teacher shall be entitled to the following: (a) A duty free lunch period no less than twenty-five (25) minutes elementary staff up to a maximum of thirty-five (355) minutes. (b) For a grade ECSE-5 grade teacher: a minimum of 250 minutes per week of time for preparation. Each preparation period to consist of a minimum of twenty-five (25) duty-free minutes. For a grade 6-12 teacher: a minimum of one preparation per day that shall be equivalent to a normal teaching period or an average of five normal teaching periods per week. (c) Cafeteria duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made to obtain volunteers for this duty, which will be in lieu of a class period. If no volunteer is available who can be scheduled, the administration may assign a teacher to such duties. No teacher may be involuntarily assigned these duties for more than one consecutive year. The daily scheduled preparation period is subject to the total school program, and as a result, such things as miscellaneous programs, field trips, testing programs, emergency class needs, and assemblies may, from time to time, be substituted for preparation time. It is expected that preparation periods will first be used for such things as thorough preparationspreparation, conferences with parents, teachers, and administrators, I.E.P.T.'s, and special assistance to students. 47. Activities involving teachers beyond the scope of the formal teaching day shall Teachers may be determined cooperatively between a faculty selected committee and the administration at that levelrequired to attend up to three (3) night meetings each semester. Teachers shall be given fortycompensated at $22.00 per hour for attendance at these meetings. 8. Staff meetings will be limited to two (2) per month, not more than 60 minutes in length, to be held immediately prior to or after the teaching school day. 9. All teachers may be required to attend meetings of parent-eight (48) hour notice teacher building organizations, or district parent-teacher conferences in their building, and remain on duty throughout the scheduled period of such activities and meetings. 10. Teacher participation in extra curricular activities, for which no additional compensation is paid, shall be encouraged and expected by the Association to attend. Special teachers shall be encouraged to attend as their time and schedules allowvoluntary. 5. In the event that it becomes necessary to determine a new building schedule, a committee will be formed, comprised of an equal number of administrators and teachers to examine alternative scheduling. A recommendation on the study will be presented to the superintendent. No recommendation will be made that would jeopardize accreditation. 6. The normal weekly teaching load in the middle school and senior high school will be twenty-five teaching assignments, not to exceed (5) periods per day and a minimum of five (5) conference periods (Teachers teach five periods of a six period day, with one preparation period and 30 minutes for lunch concurrent with the student lunch). A grade PPI-12 teacher's workday study hall shall consist of be considered a teaching assignment. C. All elementary teachers not taking a compensatory voluntary duty shall be entitled to a maximum of thirty-five (35) minutes. (b) For a grade ECSE-5 grade teacher: a minimum of 250 minutes per week of time for preparation. Each preparation period to consist of a minimum of twenty-five (25) duty-free minutes. For a grade 6-12 teacher: a minimum of one preparation per day that shall be equivalent to a normal teaching period or an average of five normal teaching periods per week. (c) Cafeteria duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made to obtain volunteers for this duty, which will be in lieu of a class period. If no volunteer is available who can be scheduled, the administration may assign a teacher to such duties. No teacher may be involuntarily assigned these duties for more than one consecutive year. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. (d) Attendance at 6th grade camp shall be voluntary. 2. A teacher directly involved in negotiation during the school day, negotiating on behalf of the Association with any representative of the Board, or participating in any professional grievance negotiation, shall be released from regular duties without loss of salary. Teachers of music, art, physical education and laboratory sciences, librarians, counselors, and all special education teachers shall be provided preparation time to the same extent as other teachers in the District. F. If a substitute is not available for special teachers and the regular teacher is required to exceed be responsible for supervision of his/her students during this time, the workday regular teacher will be compensated at the internal substitute rate as specified in Article XII of seven this agreement. G. The teachers of the Tahquamenon Area Schools shall make themselves available for the following: i. Six (76) hours of parent-teacher conferences per year and ten a one-hour fall open house per year. The entirety of these conferences will occur outside the regular duty day. The date for the fall open house will not be more than two weeks prior to the start of the school year unless mutually agreed upon by both the Board and the Association. ii. Fifteen (1015) minutestwo-hour delayed start days for staff meetings and/or professional development; teachers will arrive at regular time and classes will start at 10:00 am. iii. At Staff will be notified of the beginning complete schedule of each year, the administration at each level shall determine what portion dates for all of the above times will be used before and after school. Teacher input will be encouraged. It is expressly understood that an individual teacher's items by the first day may be adjusted to facilitate the administration of the individual building. (b) Middle School Teachers (6-8) shall not be required to exceed five (5) hours (15) fifteen minutes (includes passing time) of pupil instruction time per day (or equivalent) provided further that each teacher is assigned one (1) preparation period per day. Hall duty Beginning with the 2007-08 school year, Middle School teachers shall not be required to exceed five (5) hours and thirty (30) minutes of pupil instruction time per day. (c) High School teachers (9-12) shall not be required to exceed five (5) hours fifteen (15) minutes (includes passing time) of pupil instruction time per day (or equivalent) provided further that each teacher is assigned one (1) preparation period per day. Beginning with the 2007-08 school year, High School teachers shall not be required to exceed five (5) hours and thirty (30) minutes of pupil instruction time per day. (d) The classroom teachers shall have a minimum period of at least 50 minutes per day assigned to them for classroom preparation within the building. The preparation period shall not be interrupted except for IEP's, Parent Conferences, Evaluation conferences that cannot be scheduled at any other time. Administrative conferences shall not be held during the preparation time unless mutually agreed between the teacher and the appropriate administrator. (e) Pupil instruction time may be included adjusted as required by the state if the amount of instruction time in 1 (a) through 1 (c) does not meet additional state required minimums beyond 1098 hours. 2. All teachers will be guaranteed a minimum of forty (40) minutes uninterrupted lunch period during their normal work day. 3. The administration may call a faculty meeting which shall not exceed one (1) hour beyond the normal quitting time. (a) This shall not be more often than once every two (2) weeks. 4. The Administration agrees that every effort shall be made to reduce interruptions for such things as faculty announcements or meetings and assure, in so far as possible, the teachers a block of time that can be used for their preparation of regular classroom assignments. 5. Teachers will have the following days without meetings or other interruptions unless otherwise mutually agreed or as otherwise set forth in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. The student day may be increased if necessary to meet the State time requirements for instructional hours. TEACHING HOURS. A. No teacher shall be required to report for duty earlier than fifteen (15) minutes before the opening of the pupils’ regular school day in the morning. Teachers shall be permitted to leave 15 minutes after the close of the pupils’ regular school day. Teachers are encouraged to remain a sufficient period after the close of the scheduled school day to attend to those matters that properly require attention at that time, including consultations with parents when‌ scheduled directly with the teacher. On days preceding holidays or vacations, the teacher’s day shall end at the close of the pupil day. B. The normal weekly teaching load in the junior and senior high school will be 25 teaching periods per week. The schedules of all teaching personnel shall conform to those stated in Appendix A of this Agreement. C. Vocal and instrumental music and physical education shall remain as an integral part of the total school curriculum throughout the duration of this Agreement. D. The elementary vocal and theory music programs (1. A grade PPI-12 teacher's workday -6) shall consist meet in a normal classroom situation and be conducted by a fully certified music teacher for a weekly period of time no less than fifty (50) minutes which shall not be divided into more than seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutes of formal responsibilitytwo sessions. Hall duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort Children will be made mutually allowed to participate in Elementary Beginning and Advanced Bands as an alternate to this program. E. The elementary physical education program (K-6) shall be conducted by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive mannerfully certified physical education teacher for a weekly period of time no less than fifty (50) minutes, which shall not be divided into more than two sessions. The student day may be increased if necessary to meet the State time requirements for instructional hours. Within said time of formal responsibility, a teacher Elementary physical education class size maximum shall not exceed thirty-three pupils. F. All teachers shall be entitled to the following: (a) A a duty free lunch period no of not less than twenty-five (25) minutes to a maximum of thirty-five (35) 35 minutes. (b) For a grade ECSE-5 grade teacher: a minimum of G. Elementary teachers shall use for preparation all time during which their classes are scheduled for instruction from various teaching specialists. H. Teachers will be entitled to 250 minutes per week of planning time for preparation. Each preparation period to consist of a minimum of twenty-five (25) duty-free minutes. For a grade 6-12 teacher: a minimum of one preparation per day that shall be equivalent to a normal teaching period or an average of five normal teaching periods per week. I. Planning, recess, and relief time lost due to scheduled parties will not be compensated or rescheduled. During scheduled assemblies, the teacher who is assigned to any group of students shall attend the assembly (c) Cafeteria duty includes specialists special ed, etc). When a specialist is assigned to any staff member’s classroom during an assembly time, that staff member may leave the assembly for whatever portion of that time is needed to perform necessary tasks normally done during preparation time. It is not expected that the teacher will leave for the sole purpose of having break time. Planning time lost due to shared time teachers’ extra curricular high school responsibilities will be included rescheduled by the shared time teacher. J. No departure from these norms, except in the teacher's workday. Every effort will case of emergency, shall be made to obtain volunteers for this duty, which will be in lieu without prior consultation with the Association. In the event of a class period. If no volunteer is available who can be scheduled, any disagreement between the administration may assign a teacher to such duties. No teacher may be involuntarily assigned these duties for more than one consecutive year. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration Board and the Association as to deal with these duties in a most positive mannerthe need and desirability of such deviation, the matter may be processed through the professional grievance procedure hereinafter set forth. (d) Attendance at 6th grade camp shall be voluntary. 2. Before and/or after school, K. Whenever a grade ECSE-12 teacher shall be attending is asked to work more than his/her teaching duties schedule as set forth in his/her building for up to thirty (30) minutes but not to exceed the workday of seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutes. At the beginning of each yearthis article, the administration at each level shall determine what portion of the above times will be used before and after school. Teacher input will be encouraged. It is expressly understood that an individual teacher's day may be adjusted to facilitate the administration of the individual building. Early leave may be granted at the discretion of the Administration. 3. The daily preparation period will first be used for such things as thorough preparations, conferences with parents, teachers, and administrators, I.E.P.T.'s, and special assistance to students. 4. Activities involving teachers beyond the scope of the formal teaching day shall be determined cooperatively between a faculty selected committee and the administration at that level. Teachers shall be given forty-eight (48) hour notice of such activities and shall be encouraged and expected by the Association to attend. Special teachers shall be encouraged to attend as their time and schedules allow. 5. In the event that it becomes necessary to determine a new building schedule, a committee will be formed, comprised of an equal number of administrators and teachers to examine alternative scheduling. A recommendation on the study will be presented to the superintendent. No recommendation will be made that would jeopardize accreditation. 6. A teacher’s building assignment shall be determined by where he/she is assigned for over half of his/her schedule. A shall receive additional compensation as indicated in paragraph L. L. Any teacher who has a split building assignment will have their workday schedule determined by the building administrators. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have a minimum of 30 minutes substitutes for travel. If the travel time encumbers the teacher’s preparation period or duty free lunch, or extends the teacher’s day beyond the contractual limits, then the another teacher shall be paid for receive compensatory time at a minimum of thirty (30) minutes at the teacher’s per diem rate (unless this time is recouped through other minutes during the day).of
