The Role of Volunteers. Volunteers play a very important role in the success and ongoing development of OSPE. As a member-driven professional association, OSPE relies on the insight and experience of volunteers working or training in the field in order to effectively promote the professional and economic interests of engineers province-wide. OSPE volunteers have several roles: Determining policy. The Board of Directors is the governance group with legal responsibility for the organization. Elected volunteer Board members make the decisions that govern OSPE “business,” such as our mandate, priorities and plans. Elected Board members are accountable for their decisions – both to the OSPE members who elect them and to society through the laws that govern the activities of a not-for-profit organization. Developing policy options. OSPE committees, working groups and task forces report to the Board of Directors. Together with supporting staff, committee volunteers research and develop policy and/or programming proposals that support the goals of the organization. Providing time, talent and experience. At various times throughout the year, OSPE volunteers work with staff to help organize events, deliver programs, and recruit prospective members.

The Role of Volunteers. MAKE IT is a primarily volunteer-run organization and depends on pro-xxxx contributions to deliver its mission. Volunteers can contribute in various ways, including serving as advisors or board members to MAKE IT, mentoring ventures, referring participants and partners, giving talks, helping develop programming, creating content, hosting events, and guiding factory tours. CATALYST PROGRAM MAKE IT supports the community through educational programming, content creation, and community-building activities, and it provides targeted support to growth-minded creators and manufacturers (“Participants”) through its Catalyst Program. Certain volunteers, called “Catalysts,” have agreed to make a specific commitment to serve as advisors to Participants in the program. Catalysts are not financially compensated, but have a unique opportunity to help Participants and the local manufacturing community, and in the process meet some of the more exciting up and coming emerging brands and entrepreneurs. The Catalysts’ main role is to give one-on-one guidance to Participants in their efforts to scale. Catalysts who accept the role as a “Lead Catalyst” commit to spending at least six hours per month supporting the program and get partnered with one or more Participants as their lead advisor during the program. Additional responsibilities include developing and delivering educational content for Factory Tour Workshops and other events, identifying appropriate manufacturing partners, referring potential applicants and sponsors, selecting new Participants, and advising MAKE IT on strategy. Catalysts are selected for their experience relevant to the needs of new Participants and for their commitment to the program. Relationships between Catalysts and Participants are formed based on the needs and preferences of the entrepreneur and the experience and expertise of the available Catalysts. Each Participant is assigned a Lead Catalyst, and sometimes more are assigned based on needs. Lead Catalysts check in at least monthly with their Participants and make introductions and give advice as needed. A monthly Catalyst Meeting held by MAKE IT in person or over videoconference enables Catalysts to report on progress, volunteer help, and get assignments to new Participants.
