Instructional time definition

Instructional time means the hours during the School day designated by the School for class instruction.
Instructional time means time during which a school is responsible for a student and the student is required or expected to be actively engaged in a learning activity. It includes instructional activities in the classroom or study hall during regularly scheduled hours, required activities outside the classroom, and counseling, private conferences, or tutoring provided by school employees or volunteers acting in their official capacities during or outside of regular school hours.
Instructional time shall consist of the time necessary for a student to meet the state mandates. Additionally, the parties agree to meet any changes required by the School Code for the life of this contract. Per Section 1284(c), the Board of Education may resolve to have a minimum of 1098 student/teacher contact hours, or as provided through collective bargaining.

Instructional time means classroom time. So a district could exceed 7 hours in the school day as long as instruction is limited to 7 hours. Also, "proportionally equivalent" applies to SEEK funding. For example, if a district achieves 1,062 hours of instructional time in 154 days, this is equivalent to 170 student attendance days and calendar days for SEEK funding. Districts are not penalized for completing 1,062 hours of instructional time in less than 170 days.
