Personal Carer definition

Personal Carer means a person employed in a Residential Aged Care Facility to provide personal care to those residents and support and encourage Resident’s in maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle designed to meet their individual wellbeing levels. Movement to a higher pay point is by appointment only.

  • An Employee at this Level: • works under direct supervision within established routines, methods and procedures; • has minimal responsibility, accountability or discretion; • Assisting with showers or baths, shaving, lay out clothes and assist in dressing; • make beds and tidy rooms; • store clothes and clean wardrobes; assist with meals.; • Under direct supervision, provide assistance to a higher Personal Carer in attending to the personal care needs of a resident.

More Definitions of Personal Carer

Personal Carer means a person, excluding a health care worker, who regularly provides care to a resident who needs to be cared for due to their vulnerability relating to age, mental or physical capacity or is a woman requiring antenatal or postnatal care and the resident receives that care in their own home;
Personal Carer means one who is not a nurse who undertakes a range of duties that assists in the care of a client or resident.
Personal Carer at this Level shall mean a person who is appointed as such and is primarily performing all the duties in the delivery of personal care as outlined below independently or with limited supervision. The person may not possess a Certificate III in Community Services (Aged Care Work), but will be multi-skilled and undertakes a range of duties (including those in the General Support Function) that supports the daily living activities a client or resident. A person who possesses a Certificate III in Community Services (Aged Care Work) or equivalent, but has less than 12 months experience in Personal Care duties will be appointed to this level.

Making beds and tidying rooms. Storing clothes and cleaning wardrobes Assisting with meals. Under direct supervision, provide assistance to a higher Personal Carer in attending to the personal care needs of a resident.

An Employee at this level: • performs all duties of Personal Carer Level 1; • performs more complex personal care of residents; • is capable of 42rioritizing work within established policies, guidelines and procedures; • is responsible for work performed with a medium level of accountability or discretion; • works under limited supervision within well-established routines, either individually or in a team; • possesses good communication, interpersonal and/or arithmetic skills; • requires specific on-the-job training, may require formal qualifications and/or relevant skills training or experience; and Training or experience in the following is also a requirement: • Basic computer skills; • Dealing with dementia; • Monitoring care of an incontinent resident; • Skin care; • Simple wound monitoring; • Diabetes awareness; • Infection control; and, • Behaviour management. An Employee at this level will generally have a Certificate III or Certificate IV qualification (or possesses equivalent knowledge or skills). Performs all duties of Personal Carer Level 2 and has relevant qualifications or experience. Means a person employed in a Residential Aged Care Facility appointed as the Personal Care supervisor. The Employee will not supervise a Registered Nurse in relation to any clinical or care matters. An Employee at this level will generally have a Certificate III or Certificate IV qualification (or possesses equivalent knowledge or skills).
