Relevant Wage definition

Relevant Wage means the National Minimum Wage or the National Living Wage applicable to the Participant based on their age at the end of the six months of employment funded by the Kickstart Scheme. Grant instalments are calculated on the basis of the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage rates applicable at the time payment is made. Where a grant instalment is to be made at the end of a period that spans two different rates (for example, where as a result of the April uprating, a payment period spans 2020/21 rates and 2021/22 rates), that instalment will be calculated on the basis of the higher rates. For example, if a Participant starts work in a Kickstart Scheme job on 10 February 2021 and is 21 years old at the end of the six months of work, the Grant instalment after the first month of work should be based on 2020/21 rates, the next instalment (spanning 2020/21 and 2021/22 rates) should be based on 2021/22 rates because they are higher, and all further instalments of the Grant should be based on 2021/22 rates. * The initial Grant instalment: Employers will be paid a fixed amount to contribute to the costs of IT equipment and software licences, administration and management time, and providing support to Participants to develop the skills and experience to find work after completing the scheme. † Confirmation that Participant paid through PAYE: Confirmation is collected by DWP from Real Time Information (RTI) submissions. No Grant payment will be made to the Grant Recipient without this confirmation that the Participant has been paid by the Grant Recipient.

The amount of the initial Grant payment per Participant (£1860) that the Grant Recipient pays to the Employer depends on its agreement with the Employer. DWP expects gateway organisations will retain at least £300 to contribute towards their administrative costs. If the Grant Recipient will also be assisting with set-up, support and training during the Kickstart Scheme job, the Grant Recipient and the Employer may agree that the Grant Recipient will retain more than £300 from the initial payment to reflect its contribution to these Funded Activities. The Grant Recipient will pass through the rest of the initial payment to the Employer to contribute to its set-up, support and training costs. If the Participant will be employed by the Grant Recipient rather than an alternative Employer, the initial payment will be £1500 not £1860. † Confirmation that Participant paid through PAYE: Confirmation is collected by DWP from Real Time Information (RTI) submissions. No Grant payment will be made to the Grant Recipient without this confirmation that the Participant has been paid by the Grant Recipient or an Employer. Notes:

More Definitions of Relevant Wage

Relevant Wage means the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage applicable to the Participant based on their age at the end of the six months of employment funded by the Kickstart Scheme. If, prior to the expiry of the intended six-month period, a Participant ceases to be employed by the Employer as part of the Kickstart Scheme during any month (either because the Participant leaves their job or has their employment terminated), the payment for that month will be reduced on a pro rata basis. The amount of the payment for that month will depend on when the Participant ceased to be employed as part of the Kickstart Scheme during that month. For example, if the Participant works for three weeks during a month and then ceases employment with the Employer, the payment for that month will cover 100% of the Relevant Wage for 75 hours of work (25 hours per week x 3) by the Participant, plus the associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions. The payment for that month will still be paid in the following month on confirmation that the Participant has been paid through PAYE. No further payments will then be payable in respect of the relevant Participant.
