APPLICANT HIRING Hiring of applicants who apply for vacancies and who have been certified by the Employer as meeting the qualifications for a vacancy, and as meeting the measurable, job related selection criteria as applied by the Department shall be in the following order: A. An employee who has received a layoff notice and has not yet been laid off, who has requested in writing to be placed on the layoff list and has submitted an updated application to the appropriate Human Resources Department, shall have a right to any vacant position within his/her applicable definition of layoff per Article 25, Layoff and Recall, Section 3A-D, for which s/he has passed probation and is qualified, as determined by the Employer, and meets the measurable, job related selection criteria as applied by the Department, in order of University Seniority (see Article 24, Seniority). B. Any employee or former employee on the layoff list who has submitted an updated application has a right of recall to the Department in which layoff occurred if the Department has a vacancy in a classification from which the employee was laid off, or a vacancy in a lower class in the related series from which the employee was laid off within his/her applicable definition of layoff per Article 25, Layoff and Recall, Section 3A-D, for which the employee is qualified, as determined by the Employer and meets the measurable, job related selection criteria as applied by the Department, in order of University Seniority (see Article 24, Seniority). For additional information regarding related class series, see Appendix F, Classification Series. C. Any former employee whose name appears on the layoff list and who has submitted an updated application to the appropriate Human Resources Department shall have a right to any vacant position within his/her applicable definition of layoff per Article 25, Layoff and Recall, Section 3A-D, for which s/he has passed probation and is qualified as determined by the Employer and meets the measurable, job related selection criteria as applied by the Department, in order of University Seniority (see Article 24, Seniority).   • Notification of Employees A. Written notice of layoff shall be given to an employee or sent by mail to the last known mailing address at least fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the effective date of the layoff. Notices of layoff shall be served on employees personally at work whenever practicable. B. It is the intent of the parties that the number of layoff notices initially issued shall be limited to the number of positions by which the work force is intended to be reduced. Additional notices shall be issued as other employees become subject to layoff as a result of employees exercising reduction rights under Section 5. C. The notice of layoff shall include the reason for the layoff, the proposed effective date of the layoff, the employee's hire date, the employee's layoff points, a list of classes in the employee's occupational series within the layoff unit, the employee's rights under Sections 5. and 6. and the right of the employee to advise the County of any objection to the content of the layoff notice prior to the proposed effective date of the layoff.

  • Employee Termination A) Regular employees other than those serving a probationary period, shall give twenty-eight (28) calendar days written notice of termination to a representative designated by the Employer with the authority to accept such written notice. B) In addition to the twenty-eight (28) calendar day notice, regular employees in positions above the level of general staff nurse shall inform the Employer of their intention to terminate as soon in advance as possible. C) The period of notice as set forth in (A) above must be for time scheduled to be worked and must not include accrued vacation, unless such vacation has been previously scheduled and approved in accordance with Article 45.03 -

  • Probationary Employees New employees shall be on probation for the first ninety (90) calendar days of their employment. The ninety (90) calendar days shall be accumulated within one (1) year from their initial date of employment, provided however, the BOARD may require an additional probationary period not to exceed ninety (90) calendar days. When an employee finishes his/her probationary period, and/or additional period which may be required s/he shall be entered on the seniority list and his/her seniority shall be computed as of the initial date of employment. The additional probationary period will not be required without submitting to the employee the reasons for the extended period. The employee may request a meeting with the appropriate administrator to discuss the reasons for extending the probationary period. However, the requirement of an additional probationary period shall not be subject to the grievance procedure. The activation of insurance benefits will not be delayed beyond the initial ninety (90) day period. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, seniority as stated above and vacation will be retroactive to the date of hire as a permanent employee. Sick days will be accrued but may not be used during the probationary period. (A) There shall be no seniority among probationary employees. (B) The UNION shall represent probationary employees for the purpose of collective bargaining in respect to rates of pay, hours of employment and other conditions of employment, but not for the purpose of protesting disciplinary action or termination of employment. (C) A probationary employee may be promoted during the probationary period, but upon such promotion s/he shall be deemed to have satisfactorily completed the requirements of the classification from which s/he has been promoted. However, s/he may be returned to such classification prior to completion of the probationary period if, in the opinion of the Board or its representatives, s/he does not satisfactorily perform the duties of the higher classification. In that event his/her salary shall revert to the lower classification. (D) The Manager of Facilities and Transportation and the Director of Food Services shall notify the UNION president, in writing, of the name and location of new employees, as they complete their probationary period.

  • Trial Service Period An employee who has satisfactorily completed their probationary period and who is subsequently appointed to a position in another classification shall serve a twelve (12) month trial service period, in accordance with Section 10.1.3. 10.4.1 The trial service period shall provide the department with the opportunity to observe the employee's work and to train and aid the employee in adjustment to the position, and to revert such an employee whose work performance fails to meet required standards. 10.4.2 An employee who has been appointed from one classification to another classification within the same or different department and who fails to satisfactorily complete the trial service period shall be reverted to a vacant position within that department and classification from which the employee was appointed. 10.4.3 Where no such vacancy exists, such employee shall be given fifteen (15) calendar days' written notice prior to being placed on a Reversion Recall List for their former department and former classification and being removed from the payroll. 10.4.4 An employee’s trial service period may be extended up to three (3) additional months by written mutual agreement between the department, the employee and the Union, subject to approval by the Seattle Human Resources Director prior to expiration of the trial service period. 10.4.5 Employees who have been reverted during the trial service period shall not have the right to appeal the reversion. 10.4.6 The names of regular employees who have been reverted for purposes of re- employment in their former department shall be placed upon a Reversion Recall List for the same classification from which they were promoted or transferred for a period of one (1) year from the date of reversion. 10.4.7 If a vacancy is to be filled in a department and a valid Reversion Recall List for the classification for that vacancy contains the name(s) of eligible employees who have been removed from the payroll from that classification and from that department, such employees shall be reinstated in order of their length of service in that classification. The employee who has the most service in that classification shall be the first reinstated. 10.4.8 An employee whose name is on a Valid Reversion Recall List for a specific job classification who accepts employment with the City in that same job classification shall have their name removed from the Reversion Recall List. Refusal to accept placement from a Reversion Recall List to a position the same, or essentially the same, as that which the employee previously held shall cause an employee’s name to be removed from the Reversion Recall List, which shall terminate rights to reemployment under this Reversion Recall List provision. 10.4.9 An employee whose name is on a valid Reversion Recall List who accepts employment with the City in another class and/or department shall have their name removed from the Reversion Recall List. 10.4.10 A reverted employee shall be paid at the step of the range which the employee normally would have received had the employee not been appointed.
