Behaviour change. Planning and Implementing Evaluation The courses are part of GCN’s core curriculum and are offered to government communicators to support them in gaining the skills and knowledge they need to carry out their roles. GCN professional development is part of the newly reformed government communication structure within the new strategic centre for government communication. The GCN professional development team, reports to the Head of Government Communication Policy and Capability team and is responsible for managing and implementing a range of learning and development initiatives to ensure that Government communicators have the skills they need to help deliver the business of Government. The above courses therefore have been designed so that Government Communicators can gain the skills they need in their roles to do their jobs better. The course outlines are as follows: - Communication Planning – 1 day course: To be delivered as an open course twice over the contract period and as an adapted corporate course as required – estimated requirement 2 corporate courses. Adaptation to GCN course content required for corporate delivery early-mid July estimated 5 days development time. Strategic approach to communication – 2 day course: To be delivered as an open course twice over the contract period and as a corporate course as required – estimated requirement 2 corporate courses. GCN course content exists and is ready to be delivered. Partnership – 1 day course: To be delivered as an open course once over the contract period and as a corporate course as required – estimated requirement 3 corporate courses. GCN is working with the Strategic Centre and the Partnership team within No10 to develop the content for this course. Once content is finalised the deliverable will be to present the course. Working Effectively with Stakeholders – 1 day course: To be delivered as an open course once over the contract period and as a corporate course as required – estimated requirement 2 corporate courses. Behaviour change. Within current behaviour change theories, it is common practice to distinguish between three phases of behaviour change: motivation, action and maintenance [45] (see Figure 19). Of these three phases, motivation is perhaps the most crucial, as it determines whether individuals will make efforts to change their behaviour and engage with behaviour change in the first place, and whether this effort will be sustained [46, 47]. At present, many existing digital behaviour change interventions rely exclusively on action-focused approaches and neglect the motivation phase – a fact which may explain the shortcomings of many existing behaviour change interventions.
