Eligibility for Employment Insurance. The parties agree that all employees who accept a pay-in-lieu option under Article 27.7, including those employees who registered pursuant to Article 27.4, are doing so pursuant to a program of downsizing undertaken by the Employer and in so doing are preventing another employee from being laid off. Accordingly the Employer agrees to take all necessary steps to attempt to ensure that the Employment Insurance Commission recognizes that the entitlement to Employment Insurance of employees who are laid off and who take a pay-in-lieu of notice option qualifies as registered ‘workforce reduction processes’ under the Employment Insurance Act.
