FLOAT SHIFT. When a work schedule consisting of twelve (12) hour workdays is implemented the use of a float shift is added to the schedule. The float shift is assigned as an additional shift. The float shift is a flexible shift to be adjusted to accommodate the absences in the other scheduled shifts such as; Vacation, Personal, & Sick hours used by other Members. The float shift will also be changed to accommodate training and event coverage.

FLOAT SHIFT. A. The Float shift shall consist of one Lieutenant, one Apparatus Engineer, one Firefighter and one Paramedic. Personnel may volunteer for the floating shift on a seniority basis. In the event there are not enough volunteers, the least senior non-probationary employee in each classification will be assigned. Management reserves the right to assign personnel as may be necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the department. This is inclusive of, but not limited to: Hazmat, scuba, tech rescue or any other specific skills or abilities an employee may possess. B. Employees on the floating shift will select work shifts based on an average of 48 hours per week for each 28-day work period. Shifts will be chosen at a minimum of 7 days in advance of each 28-day period. Currently selected vacation periods will be blocked out so as to allow the employee not to be scheduled during those vacation periods. Scheduling of work shifts will be mutually agreed upon between the employee and management. In the event that no agreement is reached on scheduling of a work shift, Article 5 of the labor agreement shall apply. C. Employees shall be able to exchange work shifts as is the normal practice. D. In addition, in 2010, each employee shall receive $2,475.34 of shift differential pay annually (paid bi-weekly) for assignment to the floating shift. In 2011, differential pay shall be $2,475.34, and each year thereafter, the amount will be adjusted by the percentage of wage increase negotiated. Effective the last pay period of 2011, the shift differential pay shall increase 3% consistent with the wage increase. Beginning December 11, 2011, differential pay shall be $2549.60, and beginning December 12, 2012, differential pay shall be $2600.59. Effective the last pay period of 2013, 2014, and 2015, this amount shall be $2678.61, $2758.97, $2841.74, respectively. E. Local 311 shall be responsible for scheduling the float shift under the direction of the Fire Chief’s designee as described above. Said individual designated by the Union President shall be compensated 1 hour at the overtime rate for scheduling each 28-day cycle.

  • Hour Shift An eight (8) hour tour shall be inclusive of an unpaid one-half (1/2) hour meal period, and two fifteen (15) minute paid relief periods.

  • Hour Shifts When the Employer deems it necessary to implement a twelve (12) hour work day, affected employees shall be notified pursuant to Clause 14.05. The following Clauses shall be replaced or added to the Collective Agreement where appropriate.

  • Day Shift The standard work day will consist of eight (8) hours worked between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. with a designated thirty (30) minute lunch period. Starting and stopping times to be determined by mutual agreement between the Company and the shop employees.

  • Broken Shifts (a) An employee may agree to work broken shifts at any time; however an employee may be required to work broken shifts in the following circumstances: (i) in homecare; or (ii) in an emergency – including staff absence; or (iii) up to and including a 4 week continuous period for circumstances other than those covered by subclauses 14.4(a)(i) and (ii). (A) Where an employee has served a period of broken shifts in accordance with subclause (iii) the employee shall not be required to serve a further period on broken shifts until he or she has been off broken shifts for a period equivalent to the previous period on broken shifts. (b) A “broken shift” for the purposes of this sub-clause means a single shift worked by an employee that includes one or more breaks in excess of that provided for meal breaks, where the time between the commencement and termination of the broken shift shall not exceed 12 hours. (c) An employee must receive a minimum break of 10 hours between broken shifts rostered on successive days. (d) Where broken shifts are worked, employees shall receive the per shift allowance set out in Item 1 of Table 2 of Schedule B to this Agreement. (e) Payment for a broken shift shall be at ordinary pay with penalty rates and shift allowances in accordance with Clause 18 - Shift and Weekend Work, with shift allowances being determined by the commencing time of the broken shift. (f) All work performed beyond the maximum span of 12 hours for a broken shift will be paid at double ordinary pay.

  • Shift A full-time shift shall normally consist of a nine (9) consecutive hour time period, determined by the University, of which one hour shall be used for a lunch period without compensation. A one-half hour lunch period may be substituted for the one hour lunch period with prior approval of the supervisor. With the approval of their supervisor and the Human Resources Office, schedules of less than forty (40) hours per week or a shift change may be elected by staff members.

  • Minimum Break between Shifts (a) Where it is necessary to work extended overtime, it is agreed that no Employee shall resume or continue to work without having had ten consecutive hours off duty between the termination of the overtime and the commencement of the Employee’s ordinary work on the next day or shift. (b) In the event that an Employee agrees to a request from site management to resume or continue to work without having had ten consecutive hours off duty, the Employee shall be paid at double ordinary time rates until the Employee is released from duty for such period.

  • Split Shift Except as otherwise provided in subsection B. below, any employee required to work a split shift shall be paid at a rate of five percent over and above his/her regular straight-time hourly rate of pay for the entire number of hours so worked. For purposes of this subsection "split shift" is defined as any eight hour daily tour of duty taking more than nine and one-half consecutive hours to complete.

  • Night Shift Employees who are required to work at least five-eighths of their normal daily tour of duty after 4:30 p.m. and before 8:00 a.m. shall be paid at the rate of five percent over and above his/her normal biweekly or hourly rate of pay for the entire shift so worked.

  • Split Shifts No shift shall be split for a period longer than the regularly scheduled meal and rest periods as provided for in Article 14.08.

  • Rest Between Shifts Article 7.10 of the Agreement applies in its entirety, except that the length of the rest period shall be eight (8) hours rather than eleven (11) hours, and beginning September 1, 2020, shall be ten (10) hours, rather than twelve (12) hours.
