Health Department Bereavement Leave. Permanent employees shall be granted use of accumulated sick leave by their appointing authority because of death of a father, mother, brother, sister, wife, husband, child, grandparent or grandchild. Such absence by the employee shall be limited to ten (10) working days per occurrence of paid leave. As a condition of granting leave for bereavement purposes, the appointing authority may request verification of the loss. At the discretion of the appointing authority, such leave may be granted because of the death of a mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, or son-in-law.

  • BEREAVEMENT/TANGIHANGA LEAVE 15.1 The employer shall approve special bereavement leave on pay for an employee to discharge any obligation and/or to pay respects to a deceased person with whom the employee has had a close association. Such obligations may exist because of blood or family ties or because of particular cultural requirements such as attendance at all or part of a Tangihanga (or its equivalent). It is the responsibility of the supervisor to obtain the decision of the Police Chief, or designate, as applicable, and for advising the Employee of the decision made.
