Bereavement/Compassionate Leave. 21.1 Employees (excluding casual employees) shall be entitled to a maximum of two days without loss of pay on each occasion and on production of satisfactory evidence of the death or near death in Australia of the employee’s partner, father, mother, brother, sister, child, stepchild or parents-in-law. 21.2 Provided eligible employees shall be entitled to a maximum of three days’ leave without loss of pay on each occasion and on the production of satisfactory evidence of the death or near death outside of Australia of an employee’s partner, father, mother, brother, sister, child, stepchild or parents-in-law and where such employee travels outside of Australia to attend the funeral. 21.3 Provided further in any 12 monthly period eligible employee subject to evidence being provided to the satisfaction of the Company, may seek bereavement/compassionate leave to the maximum of 2 unpaid days.

Bereavement/Compassionate Leave. Upon the death of a relative, an employee shall be granted a compassionate leave of up to five (5) working days, depending upon the time of bereavement in relation to the normal time off and the degree of relationship of the deceased, without loss of pay.
Bereavement/Compassionate Leave. (a) Full-time and fractional staff members may be granted up to two days paid bereavement/compassionate leave on full pay, per occasion, when a member of their immediate family or a member of their household: (i) contracts or develops a personal illness that poses a serious threat to their life; or (ii) sustains a personal injury that poses a threat to their life; or
Bereavement/Compassionate Leave. (a) When there is a death of an immediate family member of a Member, the Member concerned shall be entitled to up to five (5) days of bereavement leave with full pay and benefits. Where there is a death of a Member's grandparent, grandchild, brother-in-law or sister-in-law, the Member shall be entitled to up to three (3) days of bereavement leave with full pay and benefits. Additional days absence, with full pay and benefits, may be arranged by the Member with the appropriate person where this is necessary for travel, religious requirements or similar good reasons. The Member shall notify the appropriate person when such leave, basic or extended, will be taken. (b) It is recognized that certain emergencies, such as critical illness, may arise in a Member's personal or family life which may require his/her absence from the University for a reasonable, limited period of time. Before departing, notice of such emergency shall be given to the appropriate person who may authorize such leave for an appropriate period. (c) The phrase "immediate family member" means the spouse (for the purpose of this Article, this will include a common law spouse or same sex partner, both defined as a person who, for at least a one continuous year period, lives with a Member in an intimate relationship publicly held out as "marriage-like"), children, parents, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother or sister of the Member.

(c) At the time of death or funeral or equivalent service of an employee’s aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law, up to one (1) calendar day to attend the funeral. (d) For all circumstances described above, a maximum of two (2) calendar days for travel may be granted if overnight travel is required.

Bereavement/Compassionate Leave. 14:01 Employees shall be entitled to Bereavement Leave with pay at the time of death of a family member as follows: (a) In the event of the death of an employee’s spouse, child, step-child, (including child under legal guardianship), mother, father, step-parent, or sibling, five (5) working days shall be granted. (b) In the event of the death of a parent-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother-in- law, sister-in-law, grandparent or grandchild, three (3) working days shall be granted. (c) In the event of the death of a niece, nephew, aunt, uncle, one (1) working day shall be granted. 14:02 In the event an employee is required as a pallbearer not included above: One (1) working day will be granted. 14:03 When the death of a family member in 14:01 (a) (b) above occurs outside the North American Continent, the bereavement leave will be extended for an additional three (3) days provided the employee attends the funeral. 14:04 Working days shall not include Saturdays, Sundays, and statutory Holidays. 14:05 Where an employee is a proven Executor of the will in Canada, one (1) additional day will be granted. 14:06 In the event of a death of any employee within the bargaining unit, the Chairperson or Vice Chairperson or his/her designated Union member shall be granted four (4) hours off, without loss of pay, to attend the funeral provided the funeral is within the normal working hours of the person attending. (a) The Director of Education may grant compassionate leave, with or without pay and without loss of sick leave credits for the following reasons: i) If extra time is required for bereavement leave the employee shall make prior application to the Employer for an extension of this allotment. Each request is to be considered on its merits. ii) For reasons other than those stated above. (b) Compassionate leave, with pay and without loss of sick leave credits, shall be granted by the Director of Education for the following reasons: i) critical illness of an immediate family member, ii) OHIP covered surgery for a child or spouse (c) In all cases, the number of days in Article 14:07 shall be at the discretion of the Director.
