Institutional milestones and objectives. The institution has established the following milestones and objectives in relation to its higher education provision falling under this access agreement.
Institutional milestones and objectives. The proposals outlined in this Access Agreement have been made on the basis that the University of Reading fully supports the concept of widening participation through fair access, and that its focus on meeting state-school recruitment and other fair access indicators must continue to be maintained, but that these priorities must be seen in the context of student anxiety regarding debt. For these reasons, the University has chosen to invest a substantial amount of its additional fee income into the Standard Bursary and associated fair access bursaries, and to developing existing and instigating new outreach activities. The University Corporate Plan assumes a 1% reduction annually in the number of UK/EU students, relative to HEFCE contract numbers, for the period of the plan (2004-2009) or until the HEFCE cap is lifted. The current assumption is that by the end of the planning period, student numbers will be at a level which can be regarded as stable and sustainable into the future. The Institutional Milestones outlined below reflect this approach.
Institutional milestones and objectives. Through its additional bursaries, financial support schemes and outreach work, the College aims to increase participation in its courses by the following groups, which are under-represented in the College’s Higher Education courses and/or in HE across the UK as a whole. (i) Students from designated “widening participation” postcode areas (ii) Female students (Jazz Studies, Music Production and Sound Design courses) (iii) Students specialising in “endangered species” instruments: oboe, bassoon, horn, trombone, tuba and strings. Over the period of the Agreement (2006/07 – 2010/11), the College has set milestones (years three and four) and targets (year five) for participation in all three of these groups: WP Postcodes 22% 24% 25% 26% Female students (certain courses) 14% 16% 18% 20%

The figure to increase by two percentage points in each of the subsequent years of the agreement.
Institutional milestones and objectives. The institution has set the following milestones and objectives in relating to this • Recruitment targets for 2008/09 as set out in the College Strategic Plan and Higher Education Strategy. Currently around 33% of our intake fall into the bottom 2 quartiles for educational achievement and HE participation, as derived from our ILR and HEIFS returns. While this figure is already high due to the nature of our institution and its policies, our target figure for 2006/07 is for this to exceed 40% • To develop new products and programmes as appropriate to support the principles of the Access Agreement
