Justification for the Stretch Sample Clauses

Justification for the Stretch. While improving the attendance in these schools, and with the cohort of Girls, is challenging achieving the stretch will be managed through: • Clearer and more timely collection and analysis of data through the electronic registration system • Targeting activity more precisely on specific groups of children or families in order to address those issues preventing full attendance. • Providing education off site at youth clubs, libraries etc / Adjusting the timing of the school day; • Developing a more relevant curriculum through using the new powers available to schools to vary the curriculum on offer in Key Stage 4 through links with partner organisations such as WMBC, Lairdside, training providers and charitable organisations such as Wirral Methodist in Rock ferry • Promoting more opportunities for child care provision to reduce the need for girls to act in child care roles The schools have significant partnership arrangements particularly through EiC with alternative curriculum providers-Lairdside for example and with Social Services, Youth Service, ESWS Health Service and charitable organisations such as groups supporting young carers The total population of the six selected schools is 6513 pupils. The average increase in attendance in these schools will be 0.5%. This translates into an increase of 12,374 half day pupil attendances at a unit cost of £6.47.

Justification for the Stretch. This year Wirral has invested over £1.5 million new funding into programmes that will impact on infant mortality and life expectancy. These focus on effective diagnosis and treatment of people with existing disease and health promotion in disadvantaged areas and groups. To achieve the stretched target an additional intervention will be delivered with specific and measurable outcomes to have a significant additional impact on life expectancy within a defined population group. These three programmes are as follows: 1. Effective diagnosis and treatment services for those with existing disease such as angina, diabetes and heart disease. This work has received additional funding this year through co-ordinated programmes of modernisation and collaboration. This includes capital and revenue investment to expand facilities and programmes at the Wirral Heart Support Centre and the establishment of a Birkenhead Heart Centre. 2. Increased targeting of health promotion programmes to disadvantaged areas and groups to increase infant mortality and life expectancy. This includes investment in smoking cessation programmes for pregnant women, young mothers and manual workers, accident and suicide prevention, exercise and lifestyle centres and an obesity service. These programmes are being delivered in partnership with organisations such as Sure Start, Small and Medium sized Enterprises (XXXX), Maternity Services and the Local Authority. 3. Additional focussed resource to a small number of high risk individuals to achieve considerable change in the risk factors for the major causes of death and thus achieving significant increase in life expectancy within three years. The additional focussed intervention (number three above) will form the basis of the measurement of our stretch target and proxy indicators have been developed for its monitoring. To have an impact on life expectancy in the short term (three years), action is being targeted at those people most at risk of the major causes of death in Wirral, namely cancer (primarily lung cancer), stroke and coronary heart disease (CHD). A number of modifiable risk factors have been identified as contributing to a significant proportion of these major causes of death. Whilst it is difficult to give figures for the proportion of each that could be prevented through risk factor modification (because many people have multiple risk factors and it is hard to disentangle the separate effects), major research studies have shown: • Lif...
Justification for the Stretch. Wirral has successfully introduced a network of key One Stop Shops. There are already seven with one other underway. We already work closely with the Department for Work and Pensions. There is a clear commitment from all involved for this face to face access channel to be successful. Sectional management is clear in the role of face to face customer access fitting into the overall strategy of access. Achieving these new targets will require the service to adapt to being much extended, which gives staffing resource allocation an even higher profile. We will need to work differently and smarter. With staff able to be flexible to ensure coverage. We will also have to extend training to ensure knowledge and understanding. A key component will be Information Technology, which will be the source of information to support staff.
