Leave to Hold Public Office. YSB recognizes the right of Employees to participate in public affairs. Therefore, upon written request, YSB shall grant a leave of absence without loss of seniority and without pay so that Employees may be candidates in a Federal, Provincial or Municipal election. Such leave shall follow nomination of the candidate and shall terminate on Election Day. An Employee who is elected to public office shall be granted a leave of absence without loss of seniority and without pay for the duration of one term of their office.

Employees may accumulate up to a maximum of ninety hours (90 days) of sick leave in their sick leave bank. Those employees still employed as of the June shall retain sick leave accumulated to that date. The total accumulated sick leave in the Employees' sick leave bank at the date of ratification shall become their maximum accumulated sick leave if it exceeds ninety hours (90 days).
Leave to Hold Public Office. 6.12.1. A unit member who is elected to public office requiring full-time service shall be entitled to an unpaid leave of absence for the length of his/her first term in office or one (1) year, whichever is greater.
6.12.2. The member shall notify the Board of his/her intended return to District employment at least 90 days in advance.
6.12.3. A unit member who is elected to a local office requiring less than full-time service may be granted a total of five (5) days leave without loss of pay in any one school year to attend to duties arising out of the office, subject to the approval of the Superintendent. Time off granted in excess of five (5) days may be compensated at the rate of the difference between the member’s daily rate of pay and the rate actually paid the substitute.
Leave to Hold Public Office. (Regular Employees Only)
a) The Society recognizes the right of employees to participate in public affairs. Therefore, upon written request, the Society shall grant a leave of absence without loss of seniority, and without pay, so that employees may be candidates in a Federal, Provincial, or Municipal election. Such leave shall follow nomination of the candidate and shall terminate on election day.
b) An employee who is elected to public office may be granted a leave of absence without loss of seniority and without pay for a period equal to one (1) term of office.
Leave to Hold Public Office. The College recognizes the employee’s right to participate in public affairs as any other citizen.
