Renewal of a Medical Leave of Absence. In the event a medical leave of absence needs to be renewed for an additional school year, up to an additional year without pay may be granted annually, upon written request from the teacher and mutual agreement between the teacher and the District. A teacher may only request to renew this leave two (2) times not to exceed three (3) consecutive years on a medical leave of absence.

Renewal of a Medical Leave of Absence. In the event a medical leave of absence needs to be renewed for an additional school year, up to an additional year without pay may be granted annually, upon written request from the teacher and mutual agreement between the teacher and ISD 196. A teacher may only request to renew this leave four (4) times not to exceed five (5) consecutive years on a medical leave of absence. Such requests must be submitted to the Human Resources Department no later than the end of the work day on April 1 of each year. Requests submitted after April 1 may be considered on an individual basis. Requests shall be subject to ISD 196 approval, whose decision is final and binding. A teacher who plans to return to work must notify the Human Resources Department by April 1 in the school year prior to their anticipated return. If the teacher fails to notify ISD 196 of their return, or failed to receive a renewal of the leave or exhausts the leave renewal options they may forfeit their right to return to work and may be terminated.
