Bargaining unit members employed by Central Michigan University in the bargaining unit who were on the payroll or on leave of absence prior to March 1, 1976, and who retire as specified in Article 38 (Retirement), shall receive a retirement service award of one-and-one-half percent (1½%) of the bargaining unit member's current ten (10) month base salary at the time of retirement multiplied times the number of equivalent full-time years of service at Central Michigan University. 2. For purposes of Paragraph 1, bargaining unit members who retire at age 55-59 with at least fifteen (15) but less than thirty (30) years of service shall receive a retirement service award calculated according to the same method but multiplied by 55/60 if age fifty-five (55), 56/60 if age fifty-six (56), etc. The proration of the award is waived by CMU when an eligible bargaining unit member under age sixty (60) has entered into a retirement incentive agreement with CMU. 3. In case of the death of a bargaining unit member who had been on the payroll or on leave of absence prior to March 1, 1976, the retirement requirements are waived and an amount equal to the retirement service award will be paid to the estate of the bargaining unit member. 4. Retirement Service Award. A. In order to be eligible for a retirement service award the following conditions must be met. 1. Retiree must have 10 years of district service. All District service shall count towards meeting this requirement. 2. Retiree must be eligible to collect TRS benefits. 3. The unit member must notify the district at least 5 months prior to intended retirement date. B. The amount of an eligible member’s retirement incentive shall be determined using the following formula: Upon retirement the unit member will receive fifty dollars ($50) per day for accumulated sick days up to a maximum of one hundred (100) days. Additionally, the unit member will receive two hundred and fifty dollars ($250) per year for each year of district service for up to a maximum of twenty (20) years. The maximum amount of a retirement service award for an eligible member is ten thousand dollars ($10,000). The District shall distribute said monies within thirty (30) days of retirement into a non-elective 403(b) employer contribution plan. C. The Employer agrees to make a Non-elective Contribution for eligible unit members in an amount determined above. Such contribution will be made to a 403(b) program able to accept Employer contributions as defined in the Internal Revenue Code. This contribution will be processed within thirty (30) days of retirement. No Cash Option
