SITE DESCRIPTIONS. Rock Creek (mile 3 on park road; park at C-camp): The four grids are 1.5 km north of the road at an elevation of 2400 feet. It is an easy 20-minute walk to the site when following a trail that follows the east ridge above Rock Creek. Two of the grids (RR1 and RR2) are riparian and the other two (RF1 and RF2) are on the west ridge above Rock Creek. Habitat is spruce taiga with ground vegetation including a mix of willows, grasses, sphagnum, dwarf birch, and various berries. Because the site has been used for ten years, there are trails between trap sites that are unsightly but facilitate trap checks. A large bear barrel (55 gallon drum) at the campsite simplifies proper storage. Teklanika (mile 26; park in pullout): The three grids are located on the eastern side of the Teklanika River and are up to 2.5 km north of the road at an elevation of 2600 feet. It is a 45-minute traverse across scrubby tundra and numerous streams to reach the campsite. One grid (TK3) is 15-20 minute walk south of the other two grids and this must be negotiated 6 times a day when checking traps. Habitat for TK1 and TK2 is a mix of open meadow and spruce taiga. TK3 is on a large river bar and is a mix of willow and scrubby grasses. Polychrome (mile 47.7; park in grader parking space on north side of road): The three grids are located 4 km south of the highway, on the far side of the Plains of Xxxxx and at an elevation of 4000 feet. It is a good hour hike to the site. The best route is to thwack east across the plains towards the river where the walking is easier. Two grids (PC1 and PC2) are on the west side of the river and are typical alpine tundra: a scrubby mix of willows, dwarf birch, and grasses. The third grid (PC3) is across the river and is primarily a grassy meadow, wet on the north side. Crossing the river is generally easy in rubber boots, but the flow is very ephemeral and heavy rains can make the crossing hazardous or even impossible. Additionally, the elevation makes frost or snow possible at any time of the year. The best out-of-sight campsite is tucked into a narrow canyon that cuts west into the mountains. Stony Creek (mile 65?: park in pullout just west of where Stony Creek crosses the highway): The grids are located 4 km north of the highway, near the confluence of Stony Creek and Little Stony Creek and at an elevation of 3500 feet. It is up to an hour and a half hike to the site with gear. The easiest and flattest route is along the river bar. However, as at Polyc...
SITE DESCRIPTIONS. A Preliminary Assessment of IAAAP completed in FY2002 identified 13 areas for further FUSRAP investigation. Six of these areas were addressed as described in Section 1.3. b. (12) of this SMP. One Operable Unit (soils/structures) consisting of seven geographically separate sites is recommended for further FUSRAP investigation and remediation, where required. These sites include Line 1, the Firing Site Area, Yard C, Yard G, Yard L (soils surrounding Warehouses L-1,-2 and -3), Warehouse 3-01, and the West Burn Pads Area south of the road. These sites are described in the following paragraphs.
SITE DESCRIPTIONS. 4.1 Muddy River Site‌ The Muddy River site is located on USFS land approximately five miles upstream of the confluence with Xxxxx River and just upstream of the Forest Road 25 crossing (Figure 1). There is a day-use park at this location which will provide for paved access to the site. This particular section of the Muddy River has a natural side-channel. The existing channel is lined with trees and has boulder, gravel and large woody debris (LWD) components already in place. This side channel is not hydraulically connected to the mainstem Muddy River on the upstream end but, during high flow periods, water can back up into the channel at the downstream end. Site construction would modify the channel on the upper end to provide some pass-through water from the main Muddy River using an infiltration gallery. The lower end will have a screened enclosure to allow for containment of the juvenile spring Chinook. Water will be conveyed from the upper intake to the rearing pond via an underground flowline. Otherwise the channel will remain as natural as possible (see attached drawings). The completed rearing area will have an approximate volume of 9,500 ft3 with the capacity to rear up to 125,400 fish. Once constructed the side channel gates would remain open and stored during the off-season so that, once access to the site is available in the early spring, the inlet/outlet gates will be placed and the channel watered-up and just prior to transfer of juvenile spring Chinook to the facility. A PacifiCorp biologist will monitor condition of the channel prior to fish transfer. In about mid-to- late-April of 2013, the ponds will be stocked with 45,000 spring Chinook at roughly 20 to 25 fish per pound (fpp). The number of fish ponded will likely change from year to year depending on success and condition of the other two ponds. The spring Chinook will be checked daily at the onset of the program until the best visiting frequency is determined. Then, pond visits could taper off to about three times a week. The purpose of the pond visits is to verify proper flow through the ponds and to distribute some food supplementation. The fish will be allowed to emigrate from the ponds when they have achieved a size of 16 to17 fpp (about 125 mm) or once they begin to exhibit smolt characteristics (e.g., silvery appearance, loose scales, etc.) including behavior such as circular swimming in schools. To allow for fish to leave the pond, the downstream screen will be removed and the ...

  • System Description The wet detention basin is designed to trap 80% of sediment in runoff and maintain pre-development downstream peak flows. The basin has two forebays (smaller ponds) located at the low end of two grass xxxxxx. In addition to runoff conveyance, the grass xxxxxx also allow infiltration and filtering of pollutants, especially from smaller storms. The forebays are each 4 feet deep. They are connected to the main pool by 18 and 24-inch metal pipes that outlet onto a rock chute. The forebays will trap coarse sediments in runoff, such as road sands, thus reducing maintenance of the main basin. The main pool will trap the finer suspended sediment. To do this, the pond size, water level and outlet structures must be maintained as specified in this Agreement (see Figures 1, 2 and 3). The main basin receives runoff from a 67.1 acre drainage area (41.2 acres within the subdivision and 25.9 acres off-site drainage coming from the east). During high rainfall or snow melt events, the water level will temporarily rise and slowly drain down to the elevation of the control structure. The water level is controlled by a 12-inch concrete pipe extending through the berm in the northwest corner of the basin (see Figures 1 and 3). On the face of the 12-inch pipe, there is metal plate with a 3-inch drilled hole (orifice) with stone in front of it. This orifice controls the water level and causes the pond to temporarily rise during runoff events. Washed stone (1- 2” diameter) is placed in front of the orifice to prevent clogging. High flows may enter the grated concrete riser or flow over the rock lined emergency spillway. “As-built” construction drawings of the basin, showing actual dimensions, elevations, outlet structures, etc. will be recorded as an addendum(s) to this agreement within 60 days after [Municipality Name] accepts verification of construction from the project engineer.
