Traffic Safety Officer. Where warranted by traffic conditions on or near the site, the Contractor shall nominate a suitable member of his staff as traffic safety officer to be responsible for the arrangement and maintenance of all the measures for the accommodation of traffic for the duration of the project. Duties of the traffic safety officer shall be as set out in SANS 1921 Part 2 and shall also be in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act No 85 of 1993 and the Construction Regulations 2003.

Traffic Safety Officer. Add the following after the second paragraph: “The Contractor shall submit a CV of the candidate to the Employers Agent for approval before the Traffic Safety Officer is appointed. The Traffic Safety Officer shall be made available to discuss road safety and traffic accommodation matters whenever required by the Employers Agent. This Traffic Safety Officer shall not be the same person as the Construction Health and Safety Officer contemplated in Part C of this specification. If a Traffic Safety Officer is found to be incompetent by the Employers Agent, the Employers Agent will instruct the Contractor to remove and replace him with a competent person. The Traffic Safety Officer will report to the Construction Health and Safety Officer” At the end of the subclause add the following: "The duties of the responsible persons shall include liaison with the relevant traffic authorities and in the event of an accident on the section of road under construction, the Traffic Safety Officer or his assistants shall be responsible for contacting the traffic authority and South African Police Service." Traffic Safety Officer. Refer to Clause 9.8 of Volume 5. A traffic safety officer shall be appointed by the Contractor. This person shall be a senior member of the site management team who has been duly authorised to perform his duties on his own initiative and to exercise control over others. He must also complete a communications training course successfully at the Airport Control Centre after which a license will be issued to him. He shall be on site full-time during the execution of the works and general site safety shall at all times be his first priority. The traffic safety officer shall liaise directly with the Engineer, airport control and air traffic control regarding matters related to safety.   • Learning and Development (i) Managers and supervisors are responsible for promoting and supporting learning activities for employees in their area of responsibility.

  • Occupational Health & Safety (a) It is a mutual interest of the parties to promote health and safety in workplaces and to prevent and reduce the occurrence of workplace injuries and occupational diseases. The parties agree that health and safety is of the utmost importance and agree to promote health and safety and wellness throughout the organization. The employer shall provide orientation and training in health and safety to new and current employees on an ongoing basis, and employees shall attend required health and safety training sessions. Accordingly, the parties fully endorse the responsibilities of employer and employee under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, making particular reference to the following:

  • Occupational Health and Safety Committee The Employer and the Union agree to cooperate in the promotion of safe working conditions, the prevention of accidents, the prevention of workplace injuries and the promotion of safe workplace practices.
