UNIT MEMBER DAY AND YEAR. A. The unit member day shall not be longer than eight (8) hours. 1. At least thirty hours annually will be allotted to Professional Development time including but not limited to: data analysis, learning new frameworks, Ohio improvement process, collaboration, framework implementation, curriculum and assessment development, or to conduct the business of the district as recommended by the scheduling committee per section F below. 2. If a required duty is scheduled before or after the student day, the unit member will serve that duty. Duties will be assigned by the building principal or his/her designee in a fair and equitable way. Total minutes of duty time shall be assigned as nearly equal as possible among unit members. The duty schedule will be prepared in advance with the understanding that unit members may trade duties if the trade is agreeable to both unit members. The building principal shall be notified prior to the duty if times are traded. K-4 unit members shall not be assigned more than one (1) duty per day of not more than fifteen (15) minutes in length. 3. Grades 5 & 6 unit members shall not be assigned more than one (1) duty per day of not more than fifteen (15) minutes in length exclusive of study hall. 4. The Board will pay thirty dollars ($30.00) per hour for unit members who supervise bus duty beyond the eight (8) hour unit member day. 5. A supplemental contract will be issued for supervisors of administratively organized detentions at the junior high and high school. Unit members who require students to serve detentions with them personally on an intermittent basis will not receive additional compensation. B. The workday for each full-time unit member will include: 1. At least a thirty (30) minute, uninterrupted, duty-free lunch period at a time the cafeteria is serving food. This time shall be completely free of any duty/student contact time, including but not limited to, the time it takes a unit member to get students to lunch and return them to the classroom. Unit members may leave the building during their duty-free lunch period upon notification of the building principal/designee. 2. No less than two hundred (200) minutes per week, fifty (50) minutes outside of the student day, will be scheduled for professional preparation time. 3. One day per any four (4) or five (5) day week consisting of fifty (50) minutes outside of the student day shall be reserved to conduct the business of the school district. 4. UNIT MEMBER DAY AND YEAR. 1. All unit members shall be assigned an appropriate starting and dismissal time. The unit member’s day shall not exceed seven and one-half (7-1/2) continuous hours, including a duty-free lunch that is equal to the time provided students, but in no case less than an uninterrupted one-half (1/2) hour with the following exceptions: a. No more than nine twelve (12) hours will be used in a school year. i. As part of the twelve (12) hours above, teachers may be asked to attend any school-related function including Open House or other activity as determined by the building principal. However, principals shall have the rights to schedule staff meetings either before or after the regular student day, not to exceed one hour. These meetings shall count as part of the 12 hours and be in addition to those set aside for planning, inservice education and orientation included within the unit member’s contract year. ii. Each building principal and a building advisory committee of teachers will meet by September 30 each year to determine the required events to be held within the 12 hours above. b. The Superintendent may schedule as many staff meetings as necessary, before or after the regular student day, to deal appropriately with matters deemed to be essential by the Superintendent. Attendance at these meetings shall be voluntary except in cases of emergency. 2. All unit members shall be provided planning and conference time in accordance with the requirements of the State Board of Education Minimum Standards. Unit members shall be entitled to a minimum of 200 minutes planning time each week and will receive a thirty (30) minute block of planning time each day. Travel time shall not be considered a part of the assigned planning/conference time. The remaining time will be accumulated throughout the week including minutes before and after student contact time. Planning and Conference time shall be used only for parent conferences, professional study, lesson preparation and/or other activities necessary for carrying out the duties of the position. UNIT MEMBER DAY AND YEAR. A. The normal work year will consist of 184 workdays, including two (2) preparation days and up to seven (7) in-service days. Additional in-service days may be scheduled with the agreement of the Association. B. Unit members' normal workdays will be no longer than seven and one-half (7-1/2) hours. The school day will not start earlier than 7:15 a.m. or end later than 4:30p.m. However, if meetings are scheduled in which attendance is required, unit members shall remain up to an extra hour prior to or beyond the workday. Unit members shall receive no less than two hundred (200) minutes per week for preparation time. This shall include at least one (1) thirty (30) consecutive minute period per day (not necessarily during the student day) in the elementary. Special teachers will be placed on a committee for input into scheduling. F. Any planned or unplanned two (2) hour late arrivals will result in the K-5 Regular Education classroom teachers receiving a minimum of a twenty (20) minute prep period the day of the late arrival. G. The administration shall be responsible for the equitable distribution of work among unit members. Work is defined as follows (where applicable): number of classes, number of preparations, class size, instructional/non-instructional duties, and number of classes at a specific instructional level. H. All scheduled days shall be during the regular work week of Monday through Friday, exclusive of scheduled school holidays. I. (C) Deductions from an employee's salary may be made when a salaried employee absents himself from work for a day (or days) for sickness or accident disability in accordance with the provisions of Articles 13 and 14 of this Agreement. (D) Deduction in a salaried employee's salary may be made for the initial or terminal week of the salaried employee if the salaried employee fails to work the entire workweek.
