Xxxx has expertise in the building industry, he is a thought leader as a business owner and he is connected to the greater industrial community. Xxxxx Xxxxxx, President. Xxxxxx was appointed UVic’s sixth president in September 2000. Prior to joining UVic, he was vice-principal academic at Queen’s University. During his first term as president, UVic has adopted a strategic plan and a campus plan to guide future development. His presidency has been renewed for a second five-year term, until 2010. Xxxxxx holds a PhD in botany and oceanography from the University of British Colum- bia and is recognized as one of Canada’s most highly cited scientists. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1998. He is an ex officio member of the board. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Xxxxx has practised law in the Victoria area since 1973 and is currently a partner in the firm of Xxxxx Xxxxxxxxx. She’s a director of the B.C. Law Institute and Pacific Sports Victoria, a trustee of the Nana Foundation, and co-chair of the National Family Law Program. Xxxxx is past president of the Law Society of B.C. and has served as a director of the Continu- ing Legal Education Society of B.C., the Canadian Bar Association (B.C branch) and Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital.
