Absenteeism Cover. It is agreed that all short term absences which would impact on the operation of the Xxxxxxxx must be covered. Therefore the following clause takes precedence over Clause 19.4 – Absenteeism of the Agreement. It is recognised that given the relatively small workgroup at the Xxxxxxxx that the only effective way that absences can be covered is for operators to be responsible for providing cover for all short term absences. It is recognised that any extra time should be shared as equitably as possible but that the arranging of extra time will be the operators’ responsibility. Where an absence occurs on the day shift which requires coverage, an operator from the afternoon shift will be required to attend to cover the absence at the earliest possible time. Where an employee notifies an absence on afternoon shift which requires cover, a day shift employee may be sent home to return on afternoon shift, provided this does not impact on the day shift operations. Where this is not possible an operator will be required to work a double shift. Where an absence is to exceed 5 days alternative means of cover will be provided by the company.
