Background of the assignment Sample Clauses

Background of the assignment. The TVET policy 2019 accentuates those skills are necessary for work including Lifelong Learning (LLL). It targets the creation of employable skills not only for school leavers but all Ugandans in need of skills and competencies relevant for the labour market in the formal and non-formal system, private and public TVET providers and employers; and trainees of all age groups including people with special needs. While the public institutions train approximately 75 percent of TVET students, the private sector is fairly substantial, and labour market outcomes are similar for graduates of both private and public training. Given the fragmented TVET sub-sector, sub-optional enrolment levels, structural underinvestment, limited quality of education institutional management as challenges highlighted in the TVET Policy it is difficult to estimate the optimal unit cost for the TVET training for both the institution/providers and the student in Uganda. It is to that background that study be undertaken to identify a unit cost for training a TVET student at all levels. The findings of the Unit Cost study will support the implementation of the proposed co-financed TVET financing framework, provide an advocacy platform for increased budget allocation to TVET, encourage private sector to invest in TVET, increase efficiency and minimize costs in specific aspects of TVET delivery.

FtMA’s vision is to enable sustainable food systems through strengthened markets that empower smallholders to increase their yields, incomes, and resilience, and to improve global food security. This will be achieved by creating an inclusive commercial environment throughout the food value chains, supported by appropriate policies and investments in hard and soft infrastructures. There is developed a FtMA Business Plan for Tanzania that aims to provide quality technical assistance that aligns with FtMA’s objectives and compliments both public and private sector’s investments in developing viable, sustainable and robust agricultural value chains. Background of the assignment. The national Business, Technical Vocational Education and Training (BTVET) strategic plan (2012- 2022) identifies the building of private sector participation in TVET as one of its priority areas for reforms and investments, as opposed to government dominated TVET which is a critical aspect in the paradigm shift. Very important here is the creation of strong and relevant partnerships between the training providers, the employers and the business sector who are no longer predominantly government as the job market is dominated by the private sector. This will ensure that vocational training and skills development is more relevant and demand driven. Therefore, to meaningfully engage the private sector in training and skills development, there is need to conduct a study of the private sector enterprises in the Rwenzori and Xxxxxxxxx region to identify the potential sectors, their training needs and the possible partnership opportunities. The outcome of this study will guide project partner VTIs in the Xxxxxxxxx and Rwenzori region in identifying fundamental and viable areas for meaningful partnerships and support modalities by the relevant private sector players and for the VTIs to develop and adopt training programs that are responsive to the identified sector needs. Against the above background, Enabel SSU – Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx is sourcing for a consultant to conduct a study of the private sector in order to identify priority skills needs of employers, potential areas and opportunities for partnerships and challenges which will guide partner VTIs to: • Design new and specialized short training programs to address the identified labor market needs. • Modify the current training programs to address the identified needs. • Initiate, attract and retain meaningful private sector players into partnerships for supporting the skills development processes such as Industrial Training, Work Based Learning, apprenticeships etc. • Develop modalities for supporting relevant private sector players towards the skilling process focusing on youth, women and girls. As SSU supports the 5 partner VTIs towards becoming CoVE, the focus is geared to priority trades as follows: 1. Uganda Technical College, Kyema: Construction trades 2. Millennium Business School: Catering and hotel 3. St. Xxxxx Xxxxx’s Vocational Training Centre: Motor vehicle mechanics 4. St. Xxxxxx Technical Institute Virika: Machining and fitting
Background of the assignment. Enabel, in consortium with partners (Save the Children, the lead; World Agroforestry centre - ICRAF and Joint Energy and Environmental Projects - JEEP), is undertaking a project entitled “Response to Increased Environmental Degradation and Promotion of Alternative Energy Sources in Refugee Hosting Districts” (RED) 2021-2024, funded by the European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa. The project seeks to increase environmental protection, forest restoration, and improve sustainable energy and alternative livelihoods of displaced populations and their host communities in the districts of Adjumani, Terego, Madi Okollo, Kiryandongo, and Yumbe. These districts have been hosting large numbers of refugees since the 2013 crisis in South Sudan forced nearly 1.5 million to flee their homeland. The project is largely anchored under the Ministry of Water and Environment Refugee Response Plan. In Uganda forest coverage has decreased from 24% in 1994 to 9% in 2019. The demand for, and overuse of, natural resources, particularly wood, is driven by their use as construction materials and cooking fuel, and the utilization of land traditionally used for forestry as agricultural land; 93% of refugee and host community households are reliant on wood for cooking fuel. The majority of the respondents (94%) interviewed during the baseline survey under this project still consider firewood and charcoal as the most important sources of energy for cooking. This is in line with the national context, for which over 95% of the population especially in the rural areas depends on firewood for domestic energy, according to NFA 2015 and UNHCR, 2019 reports.
