Bereavement Leave a. In the event of the death of a member of an employee’s immediate family, the employee will, upon request, be granted a leave of absence with pay for up to a maximum period of three (3) working days to attend the funeral and/or to make funeral arrangements. Normally such period will be from the day after the day of death to the day of the funeral inclusive. In cases where the employee must travel a significant distance to attend the funeral or memorial service, up to two (2) additional days for travel may be provided, with pay in the Company’s sole discretion. Immediate family includes the employee’s spouse or common-law spouse and his/her natural children, adopted children, stepchildren, xxxxxx children, grandchildren, sister, sister-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, father, father-in-law, step-parent, grandmother, grandfather, grandmother-in-law and grandfather-in-law. b. In all instances, at the sole discretion and unreviewable discretion of the Company, bereavement leave may be extended or granted on an individual basis without setting a precedent for future cases. Such decisions shall not be open to review by an arbitrator. c. At the discretion of the Company, for the purpose of attending a funeral or memorial service held for a deceased close relative outside the immediate family or a close friend, employees may be eligible for up to one (1) day of paid bereavement leave. d. Employees must notify their supervisor as soon as possible of their need for bereavement leave and the dates that they will miss scheduled shifts as a result thereof. The Company reserves the right to require satisfactory documentation to establish the need for the leave prior to granting approval and pay for scheduled shifts missed.

Bereavement Leave a. (1) In the event of the death of spouse, domestic partner, child, domestic partner’s child, step-child, parent, domestic partner’s parent, step-parent, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sibling or step sibling, an employee will be granted thirty-five (35) hours (for those Employees working a thirty-five hour weekly schedule) or forty-two (42) hours (for those employees working a forty-two hour weekly schedule) of paid bereavement leave.

  • Funeral and Bereavement Leave 19.01 In the event of death in the immediate family of an employee, the employee will be granted leave of absence with pay, with consideration given to travel time for attending the funeral.   • BEREAVEMENT/TANGIHANGA LEAVE 15.1 The employer shall approve special bereavement leave on pay for an employee to discharge any obligation and/or to pay respects to a deceased person with whom the employee has had a close association. Such obligations may exist because of blood or family ties or because of particular cultural requirements such as attendance at all or part of a Tangihanga (or its equivalent). The length of time off shall be at the discretion of the employer.

  • Bereavement A maximum of three (3) days earned sick leave may be used per occurrence for bereavement due to the death of persons in the immediate or extended family, as defined herein, or any relative who resided with the employee.
