Bereavement / Tangihanga. Hura Kōhatu leave For fixed-term employees, paid bereavement / tangihanga / hura kōhatu leave will be administered according to the Holidays Act 2003. Generally, employees will not be entitled to paid bereavement / tangihanga / hura kōhatu leave in the first 6 months of employment. The manager may, at their discretion, approve additional bereavement/tangihanga/hura kōhatu leave if circumstances warrant. Wherever possible reasonable time off, with due consideration to the requirements of the Holidays Act 2003, will be agreed in advance with the manager. On completion of 6 months continuous service fixed-term employees will be entitled to the following Holidays Act 2003 provisions and are not in addition to it: • In the event of the death of a person with whom the employee has a close association (e.g. spouse, parent, child, brother or sister, grandparent, grandchild or spouse’s parent) the employee is entitled to 3 days bereavement/tangihanga/hura kōhatu leave on relevant daily pay. • In the event of the death of a person with whom the employee has an association based on relationship to the deceased, responsibilities for the ceremonies, or cultural responsibilities, the employee is entitled to 1 day bereavement/tangihanga/hura kōhatu leave on relevant daily pay. Bereavement / tangihanga / hura kōhatu leave does not have to be taken all at once or within a specified time after the bereavement. Oranga Tamariki expects that each bereavement leave / tangihanga / hura kōhatu leave day granted would be taken as a full day. The entitlement is also in respect of each bereavement that the employee may suffer and not limited to a number per annum. Employees who intend to be absent from work, must notify their manager as soon as practicable, and give an indication of the duration of their absence.

Bereavement / Tangihanga. An employee shall be entitled to five days’ leave without loss of pay on each occasion on the death of the employee’s partner, child (including step and whangai), father, mother, brother, sister, mother-in- law, father-in-law, grandparent or grandchild. An employee shall be entitled to one day’s leave without loss of pay on each occasion on the death of a person not specified above where the employer accepts the employee has suffered a bereavement. Additional bereavement leave, with or without pay, may be granted at the employer’s discretion.

  • BEREAVEMENT/TANGIHANGA LEAVE 15.1 The employer shall approve special bereavement leave on pay for an employee to discharge any obligation and/or to pay respects to a deceased person with whom the employee has had a close association. Such obligations may exist because of blood or family ties or because of particular cultural requirements such as attendance at all or part of a Tangihanga (or its equivalent). The length of time off shall be at the discretion of the employer.

  • Bereavement A maximum of three (3) days earned sick leave may be used per occurrence for bereavement due to the death of persons in the immediate or extended family, as defined herein, or any relative who resided with the employee.

  • Bereavement Leave (a) Upon the death of an employee's spouse, spouse to include same sex partner, child or stepchild, an employee shall be granted leave up to a maximum of five (5) continuous calendar days without loss of pay. One of the days of leave shall include the day of the funeral or equivalent service. Additional days off with or without pay may be granted by the Employer. Part-time employees will be credited with seniority and service for all such leave. In the event of a delayed interment or ceremony for reason of religion or other protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code, an Employee may save one of the days identified above without loss of pay to attend the interment or ceremony.

  • Bereavement Days A. All employees may use up to (5) sick days for bereavement days for deaths in the immediate family. Immediate Family is defined as spouse, children, grandchildren, brother, sister, parents, grandparents and parent-in-law, brother/sister-in-law except that a relative living in the same household may, for the purpose of this section, be considered as of the immediate family. Two (2) of the sick days will not be chargeable to the employee's sick day bank.

  • Bereavement Leave of Absence An employee who has a bereavement in their immediate family will be granted up to and including five (5) days absence with pay. Immediate family means spouse, (as defined in Section 2(b) of Appendix 2), parents, and child. For this provision “step” relationships are considered as immediate family. An employee who has a bereavement in their family will be granted up to and including three (3) days absence with pay. Family means brother, sister, parents-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, son-in-law and daughter-in-law. For this provision “step” relationships are considered as family. In the event of the death of an employee's brother-in-law, sister-in-law or grand parents- in-law the employee will be given one (1) days' leave with pay to attend the funeral. An additional day's traveling time, in each direction, will be granted in order for the employee to attend the funeral if such is to be held in excess of 600 kilometers from the employees’ home.
