Course Allowance. Where a member is required to attend a course of instruction at the Ontario Police College or the Canadian Police College the member shall be entitled to a weekly allowance of $50.00 while in attendance at such course and the Board agrees to pay the cost of such equipment and textbooks as are authorized by the Chief of Police and the member is required to purchase. The allowance shall be calculated on a per diem basis if the member is in attendance at a course less than a full week. For the purposes of clarity, the member shall be entitled to the allowance if the course is held at the Ontario Police College or Canadian Police College campus or at another location, provided that the other location is outside of the Greater Toronto Area, which includes the City of Toronto, and the Regional Municipalities of York, Peel and Durham.

Course Allowance. 37.01 AUPE members, spouses and dependents may take unlimited challenge exams at no cost to the Employee without prejudice to the fees exemption benefit and the following Registry fees will also be waived: prior learning assessment fee, evaluation fee, letter of permission fee, change of credential fee, multiple examination request fee, re-registration fees, processing fee for withdrawal fee, extension fee, transcript fee, and rewriting exams fee. 37.02 Tuition for an Athabasca University program will be waived for one (1) six (6) credit or two (2) three (3) credit undergraduate or graduate course(s) or equivalent course credit weight per annum for the Employee and the Employee’s spouse or dependents. 37.03 Tuition reimbursement for an Athabasca University program for Employees, spouses, and dependents will be provided upon successful completion for courses in excess of the one (1) six (6) credit or two (2) three (3) credit courses as provided for in 37.02, or equivalent credit weight where appropriate, per annum to the maximum of a full load equivalent. 37.04 The University agrees to advance funds to allow Employees to utilize this provision of the Collective Agreement.

The service will provide a vehicle for transportation and in lieu of such transportation; the Board shall pay the member a travel allowance in accordance with Article 27.01 per kilometer from the Cobourg Police Office and return each day. 28.04 Any member who successfully completes a recognized course, with courses being approved in writing by the Chief of Police as being related or beneficial to the Police Service, shall be paid an amount equal to the tuition costs of such course. 28.05 All necessary equipment required by the College or Institution will be supplied by the Board. Where living accommodations or meals are not provided by the College or Institution, the Board will allow reasonable amounts of living allowance plus expenses. All such expenses must be approved by the Chief of Police.

Course Allowance. The Board will pay an Employee who provides satisfactory proof of successful completion of a course related to the Employee's job, the sum of $505.00 per course and up to $101.00 for required textbooks. This is limited to one course per year. To be eligible, the Employee must obtain approval from the Board prior to the enrolment in the course and submit a certificate/diploma upon completion. Allowance per course will increase to $510.05 effective September 1st, 2020 and $515.15 effective September 1st, 2021. Allowance for textbooks will increase to $102.01 effective September 1st, 2020 and $103.03 effective September 1st, 2021.

This allowance applies mainly to evening courses. If other than a University course, the course must apply to the member's job. Paid upon successful completion of course. c) A training allowance of $50.00 weekly will be paid while attending any course or seminar of three days duration or longer.
